Vancouver Urban Winery Joins a Select Few to Receive City’s New Lounge Licence

VUW Tasting Room begins by-the-glass and bottle program

 

Today, Vancouver Urban Winery joins a select group of peer manufacturing facilities in Vancouver to be awarded the new government-appointed Lounge Endorsement License. Unanimously approved by city council in 2013, this new zoning law permits authorized craft manufacturers to operate a small consumption area within their venue whereby they may sell and serve beverages produced onsite without restriction to sample sized quantities. 

 

“This is a game-changer for Vancouver Urban Winery,” says co-owner Steve Thorp. “We have a beautiful lounge within the facility, and we’re excited to now couple our tasting program with a wine menu that allows guests the option to uncork a bottle by the fireplace or share a few 5-ounce glasses at the bar.”

 

Vancouver Urban Winery guests will now have by-the-glass access to the 36 wine taps that line the 24-foot custom crafted Douglas fir tasting bar, as well as bottles of Vancouver Urban Winery’s “Colab Series” currently featuring Road 13 chardonnay, Bench 1775 pinot noir and Backyard Vineyards sparkling wine.

Vancouver’s first commercial urban winery, Vancouver Urban Winery, opened its doors in the historic heart of the city’s Railtown district in July of 2012. The multifunctional 7,700 sqft open-concept space boasts a tasting bar equipped with 36 taps serving a rotating selection of wine-on-tap, cozy lounge complete with bespoke tables and oversized leather sofas, and a fully operational winery that packages, imports and distributes wine for a multitude of brands.
