The Pet Lover Show February 15 and 16

In two short weeks The Pet Lover Show returns with an array of speakers and live demonstrations on February 15th & 16th, 2014 at Abbotsford’s TRADEX. This family-oriented, fun event presents animal lovers and pet owners with the rare opportunity to see unique animals and learn from knowledgeable animal professionals whose specialties include everything from training a green horse to pet grooming, canine detection and much more.

Features & Seminars Include:

The K9 Incredibles
Lisa Sun and the K9 Incredibles will rouse smiles and laughter with dog skills and tricks that will wow show attendees of all ages. You may have seen this popular group perform annually at the PNE, in Calgary, up at Whistler Animals Galore (WAG) DogFest and other demonstrations. The stars of the show are not only famous for their comedic talents, the three little pugs are true athletes, having been crowned 2-time National and 2-time Regional Agility Champions.

Urban Mushing
Urban Mushing is a sport that has developed from traditional mushing, as people who live in urban environments look for different and fun ways to address their dogs’ needs for exercise within the urban setting. No matter if you live in a condo in downtown Vancouver, or on top of Sumas Mountain, if your dog is big enough to drag you down the street, it is likely big enough to participate in Urban Mushing. Laurie Niedermayer is a certified trainer who has been teaching mushing workshops under several banners since the 1990s and will be giving demonstrations during the Show.

BC Miniature Horse Club
Tina Harrison and the BC Miniature Horse Club will introduce you to these remarkable little horses, and demonstrate just a few of the amazing abilities of this miniature breed. These horses can jump in hand, be driven and work Obstacle Halter and Trail. They are easy to look after, with scaled-down requirements for space and feed, and can even come in the house – not something you can do with a regular-size horse! Come and find out more about this fascinating breed of horses, you’ll be astonished at what they can do.

Llama Agility
At Fat Chance Ranch, their llamas do agility – it’s not just for dogs and rabbits anymore. For the first time ever, check out Llama Agility on the Weird & Wonderful Stage. Watch as they go through an obstacle course that includes jumping, going up and over platforms, through hula hoops, weaving, laying down on command and even packing.

Successful Rescue Adoption
Considering adoption? Shelagh Begg, a certified Professional Dog Trainer and the President of HugABull Advocacy and Rescue Society, can help show you how to ensure success for both you and your new canine companion. Over the last 10 years, Shelagh has worked with many shelter and rescue dogs and their families and offers useful information regarding the adoption process. She will discuss things to look for before, during, and after adoption. Specifically, she will discuss what type of dog to look for, what to do in preparation prior to bringing the dog home, and how to make sure the transition is as easy as possible. If you are considering adoption, you don’t want to miss this opportunity to find the answers to your pressing questions.

Mike the Reptile Guy
Mike Hopcraft, better known as The Reptile Guy, has been fascinated with reptiles, amphibians and arachnids for over 20 years. This passion led Mike to found the Reptile Rescue and Education Centre in Abbotsford B.C. The goal of this facility is not only to ensure a safe place for reptiles in need but also to help educate the public about the proper care and commitment it takes to have an exotic as a pet. Mike will introduce you to these exotic creatures at the show, so be sure to stop by!

Rabbit Agility
Rabbit Agility is much like dog agility only the equipment is made smaller for a rabbit and stable enough for the rabbit’s weight while manipulating the pieces. The Vancouver Rabbit Agility Club is a great place to learn about this fun activity for your rabbit. Come and see these amazing bunnies as they show off their agility skills!
