Your Senses enjoy the Unique Wine of Portugal

What to do when it is raining and miserable outside? Well come in out of the rain of course and experience the Wines of Portugal.

 

Such a delightful afternoon featuring the Wines of Portugal at the Vancouver Art Gallery. An opportunity to taste wine, mingle and nibble on delicious bites from Bon Vivant Catering.

 

Well organized by the professionals at Town Hall Brands this was a great way to be introduced to some wonderful wines.

 

My starting point was Bacalhoa Vinhos de Portugal with JP Azeitao White 2013 and JP Azeitao Red 2012 both at a reasonable 11.99 and available in the BC Liquor stores. I also enjoyed the Catarina 2013, white wine which was light but nice and available in private wine stores in BC.

 

Aveleda offered Casal Garcia Rose which is very light with a price point of 11.99. Aveleda Vinho Verde 2013 a very good, fresh and fruity wine at 12.99. Quinta da Aveleda 2013 was very, very light and I found the Avelda Alvarinho 2013 too light for my tastes at 24.99. The Follies Cabernet Sauvignon Touriga Nacional 2010 smelled and tasted delicious at 24.99. Aveleda wines are available at Everything Wine, Kits Wine Store and Liberty. (Casal Garcia in the gov’t stores)

 

Casa Agr. Aexandre Relvas – Herd. Sao Miguel from the Alentejo region offered Ciconia 2013 White which was very light, also Ciconia 2013 rose. Look for their red blend at 13.99 in gov’t stores.

 

Dao Sul Global Wines poured Cabriz Colheita Selecionada 2011 at about 17.00 a lighter wine, nice at that price. Cabriz Reserva 2010 red wine at 30.00 which smells delicious and was very tasty. Both are available at Liberty. Xadrez white wine Vinho Verde at around 14.00 was very refreshing, available at Everything Wine.

 

Esporao poured a Alandra Branco 2013 white wine at 13.00 which was very nice. Esporao Verhelho 2013 expected in stores next month at 30.00. Also available at BC Liquor Stores Alandra Tinto 2012 red wine, Monte Velho Tinto 2012 red wine and Esporao Tinto Reserva 2011 red wine. Look for their wines at Everything Wine and Kits Wine Store.

 

Luis Pato poured Espumante Maria Gomes, Vinhas Velhas Branco 2012 at 26.00 and Vinhas Velhas Tinto 2009 at 40.00. All available at the BC Liquor Stores.

 

Herdade da Comporta poured Parus 2013, Herdade da Comporta 2013 both whites and Chao das Rolas 2012.

 

Herdade da Malhadinha Nova pouring Monte da Peceguina 2012 red wine and Monte da Peceguna 2013 white wine which was not too light, I liked this one. Also a Verdelho single varietal which was nice.

 

Herdade Paco do Conde where I had a Herdade das Albernoas 2012 white wine, a Herdade Paco do Conde 2012 which had very nice aromas and I thought excellent for the price point of 13.00.

 

Jose Maria da Fonseca Vinhos has a wine on special for this month in gov’t stores Domingos Soares Franco Coleccao Privada Moscatel Roxo Rose 2013. Also available in gov’t stores: Albis 2013 white wine, Domingos 2012 red wine, Periquita Reserva 2011 and Periquita Original 2012. At specialty wine stores Twin Vines white wine.

 

Quinta do Crasto available at Everything Wine featured: Flor de Crasto Douro Tinto 2012 red wine at 13.00, Crasto Superior Douro Tinto 2011 at 30.00 was very good. Crasto Douro Branco 2012 white wine at 24.00 which was really nice. Available at gov’t stores: Crasto Douro Tinto 2012 red wine at 20. (I preferred the 13.00 choice) and Quinta do Crasto Douro Reserva Old Vines 2011 at 43.00 which I thought was excellent.

 

Senhora do Convento Senhora do Convento Porto Vintage 2011 (scored a 99) sells for around 100.00 and available at gov’t liquor stores.

 

Symington Family Estates, Vinhos available at Kits Wine Store and Marc Anthony Prazo de Roriz 2008 at 27.00, Chryseia 2008 at 84.99, Quinta de Roriz Reserva 2005 at 72.49 (beautiful aromas) and Quinta de Roriz Vintage Port 2011 at 60.99.
