It’s that time of year when softball teams either go hard or go home! The Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship takes place from July 11 – 21, 2014 as athletes gather at three locations in Surrey: Softball City, Cloverdale Athletic Park and Sunnyside Park. As one of the world’s top three women’s fastpitch events and Canada’s largest fastpitch event, the 11-day competition will showcase some of softball’s finest international athletes, as well as British Columbia’s top and rising female softball stars, as they battle it out for the coveted title of 2014 Canadian Open Fastpitch International Champion.
More than 1,300 accomplished athletes from around the world will participate in over 350 ballgames at this year’s tournament, all with the same goal of attaining the top spot, while at the same time providing a source of inspiration and mentorship to the youth of the sport and giving spectators an entertaining, fun-filled sporting experience.The Women’s International Division will feature the world’s best fastpitch teams, including three-time Canadian Open Fastpitch champion and 2012 ISF Women’s World Champion, Team Japan. Team USA and Team Canada – 2nd and 4th, respectively, at the 2012 ISF Women’s World Championship – will also join Team Mexico on the field. The 2014 Canadian Open Fastpitch will also feature international and North American club teams in the Women’s Elite Division, as well as in the Futures (U19) and Showcase (16 & under) Gold and Select Divisions.As one of the largest women’s-only sporting events in Canada, the event wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support of more than 450 dedicated volunteers of the Canadian Open Fastpitch Society.
