World’s Most Accomplished Softball Athletes to share their Knowledge and Skills

It’s time to shine up those cleats as BC’s young athletes are invited to play ball with the world’s finest softball stars during Canada’s largest softball tournament, the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship. The annual tournament, which runs from July 11 – 21 in Surrey, BC, will host Youth Clinics for girls and boys ages 8 – 16, and Learn To Play clinics for kids ages 5 – 10. Young athletes will have the chance to learn from some of the best players in women’s softball and learn personal stories of how they reached their goals.

Kicking off on Tuesday, July 15 through to July 18, this year’s series of Youth Clinics invites youth to take part in on-field activities at Sunnyside Park with these accomplished and experienced female athletes. Participants will get the unique opportunity to learn techniques and strategies from top athletes on Team Canada, Team Japan, Team USA and Team Mexico, and to hear inspiring stories of perseverance, dedication and unwavering passion. Youth Clinics run from 9:00am – 11:30am daily. All participants will receive a complimentary t-shirt and one complimentary child/teen admission for the Canadian Open Fastpitch, valid for use on Wednesday, July 16, 2014.

Those who are too young to participate in the Youth Clinics, or are being introduced to the sport of softball for the first time, can also join in on the fun as Softball BC and Canadian Open Fastpitch will be hosting the Learn to Play Softball Clinics on Saturday, July 12 from 9:00am – 12:30pm and Saturday, July 19 from 1:00pm – 4:30pm. Participants will spend the day with Softball BC’s expert instructors learning the basics and having fun on the field.

Children ages 5 – 7 are invited to participate in the first clinic on Saturday, July 12 from 9:00am – 10:30am or Saturday, July 19 from 1:00pm – 2:30pm. Children ages 8 – 10 are invited to participate in the second clinic on Saturday, July 12 from 11:00am – 12:30pm or Saturday, July 19 from 3:00pm – 4:30pm. All participants will receive a complimentary t-shirt and the opportunity to join the Parade of Athletes on Wednesday, July 16.
