Free Fun & Culture on the Streets of Vancouver

Squamish Valley Music Festival Helps Bring Free Fun & Culture to Streets of Vancouver

Virgin Mobile Presents Squamish Valley Music Festival has partnered with Rize Alliance Properties and Sean Pacey (president of Pacey’s Pianos and founder of the Piano Teachers Federation) and his widely popular Pianos on the Street project, which brings free, playable pianos to the public spaces of Metro Vancouver throughout the summer, all for the public’s music playing pleasure.

The Festival piano will be placed at Rize Alliance Properties’ The Independent (a new condo and townhouse project located at Kingsway and East Broadway) from July 24 – August 6 and at the Squamish Valley Music Festival from August 7 – August 10. Any amateur, professional or aspiring musician is encouraged to play the piano. Participants can film their performance and submit it online at www.supportpiano.com for a chance to win cash prizes of up to $400 and a performance with the North Shore Symphony in 2015.

“Pianos on the Street is a great community initiative that takes place throughout Vancouver, and we’re excited to be part of it by supporting a piano at Kingsway and Broadway as well as at our event,” says Paul Runnals, Senior Vice President, Creative & Production. “The Squamish Valley Music Festival supports all different forms of music and artistry, and we encourage everyone to come out and give it a try.”

The goal of Pianos on the Street is to make pianos accessible to as many members of the public as possible and to build bridges throughout the community through the power of music.

The piano will be onsite with a bench and a watchful community steward taking care of the piano for the duration of the program. Passersby are encouraged to play between 7:00am and 11:00pm when the piano is located in Vancouver and during Festival hours when the piano moves to Squamish.

The 2014 Virgin Mobile Presents Squamish Valley Music Festival, the highly-anticipated and largest outdoor music festival in Canada, will take place at the Logger Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields in Squamish, British Columbia, August 8, 9 & 10, 2014 and will feature over 70 performers including headliners Bruno Mars, Arcade Fire and EMINEM.
