MOTOWN AND GOSPEL UNITE FOR ELECTRIFYING  MUSICAL WEEKEND IN HALLELUJAH PRAISE

Fourth annual workshop and concert features acclaimed vocalist Louise Rose

Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir presents its highly-anticipated annual gospel music workshop and concert Hallelujah Praise: Motown Meets Gospel – at Ryerson United Church (2195 W. 45thAvenue, Vancouver), February 28 – March 1, 2015. No audition is necessary for gospel enthusiasts to attend the inspiring day-long workshop running Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 9am – 4pm. Participants will be joined by the powerful 90-voice Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir (GNVGC) and masterfully led by Artistic Director Gail Suderman and renowned, Victoria-based singer/conductor, Louise Rose. On Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 3:30pm, the workshop culminates in a fantastic, soul-infused public concert featuring upwards of 140 glorious voices joining together in song. This popular concert – which is frequently sold out – also boasts family-friendly ticket pricing for all to enjoy.

“This year’s musical theme for Hallelujah Praise connects the smooth R&B sounds of Motown with gospel music by focusing on songs from artists who successfully integrated the two styles,” says Artistic Director, Gail Suderman. “Since many Motown artists of the 1960s sang in churches prior to launching successful pop careers, there is plenty of natural cross-over to be found. The music also provides a fun-filled energy that is sure to set a positive and inspiring tone for participants and audience members alike.”

Motown Meets Gospel is timely in that it takes place at the conclusion of Canada’s own Black History Month in February. Motown artists will be celebrated through this uplifting afternoon performance that will feature hit tunes such as: Stevie Wonder’s Have a Talk With God, Michael Jackson’s Heal the World, Diana Ross’ Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand, Billy Preston’s That’s the Way God Planned It, and Jackie DeShannon/David Ruffin’s Put a Little Love in Your Heart.

An outstanding jazz pianist, vocalist, and in-demand choral conductor/coach, Pennsylvania-born Louise Rose studied under the esteemed guidance of Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington, and Leonard Bernstein. After relocating to Victoria, BC in the 1970s, she now directs the 200-voice Victoria Good News Choir and the Downbeat Magazine award-winning vocal jazz ensemble, Genesis.

For the workshop and concert, stellar accompaniment will be provided by Michael Kalanj on Hammond B3, Laurence Mollerup on bass, Elliot Polsky on drums, Ingrid Stitt on saxophones, and Gail Suderman on piano.
