Air Canada announced as Airline Sponsor for  Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship Foundation

The Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship Foundation is thrilled to announce Air Canada as Airline Sponsor for the Foundation’s 2015 culinary arts competition. Established in 2013, the Foundation brings to life the scholarship’s vision of inspiring and encouraging young chefs from across Canada by giving them the opportunity to cook in front of a panel of the country’s most revered chefs in the hopes of winning a $10,000 prize and an international stage.

Scholarship founder Chef David Hawksworth and his Chef de Cuisine Kristian Eligh, both from Vancouver’s Hawksworth Restaurant and Bel Café, held competition heats across the country in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and – new for 2015 – Montreal, accompanied by 22 of the country’s top chefs and food critics as fellow judges.

Air Canada’s generous contribution of flights for the judges and finalists enables young chefs to travel across the country to compete at Vancouver Community College on September 12. Eight finalists will cook for the title of Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship and the grand prize of $10,000, plus a chance to stage at an international kitchen of their choosing.

Judges Chef Mark McEwan (The McEwan Group), Chef Normand Laprise (Toque! and Brasserie T), Chef Scott Jaegar (The Pear Tree), Chef Anthony Walsh (Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants), and Chefs David Hawksworth and Kristian Eligh (Hawksworth Restaurant) will be joined by food critics Jacob Richler (Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants), Sarah Musgrave (enRoute Magazine) and Alexandra Gill (Globe & Mail) to choose the winner of the 2015 Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship.

“We are delighted to welcome Air Canada into our family of sponsors for the Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship Foundation,” says founder Chef David Hawksworth. “Flight support for our young competitors has helped us to attract the widest range of finalists so far and we look forward to partnering with Air Canada again in 2016 to further build on this success.”

Commenting on their involvement, Craig Landry, Vice-President Marketing at Air Canada says: “Air Canada is pleased to support the next generation of professional chef talent as the airline travel sponsor of the Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship Foundation. We are proud to help bring together Canada’s most talented young chefs and the country’s top chef judges.”
