‘Italian Gas Station Experiment’

Salt Tasting Room Launches ‘Italian Gas Station Experiment’

European treats offered with wine are no greasy roadside fare

salt gas station 1Gastown’s premier destination for wine, cheese and cured meat is kicking off 2016 with a bang. Following on the heels of the successful San Sebastian Experiment, Salt Tasting Room is travelling to Italy this time, stopping at a gas station for some delicious Italian delicacies.   Salt Tasting Room has partnered with their long time pals, the Urbani family at Port Moody-based Urbani Foods to offer complimentary samples of their products, which are inspired by gas station snacks in one of Europe’s most beloved food spots. Launching in February and running for the entire month, guests who order wine, by the glass, flight or bottle, will be able to order free Italian tapas (Cichetti).

salt gas station 2Not your typical North American gas station fare, the food that Italian motorists refuel with is sought after and anything but boring. Guests can expect delectable fare such as Venetian Tea sandwiches (Tramessini) with cheese, salami and olive tapenade or fresh sausages sous vide in a jar, and Urbani’s famous Arancini Risottoballs (also called ‘Polpette di Riso’) which are the most popular street food in Italy.

For one month only, hungry guests will have the opportunity to savour Italy’s gas station style fare without straying too far. Whether seeking a quick snack before dinner or the perfect post-work meeting spot, the ‘Italian Gas Station Experiment’ will surely welcome foodies from all over.

Salt Tasting Room will have the various flavours of Arancini Risottoballs, Urbani’s brand new Kale & Quinoa bites, and a selection of salami available for guests to purchase on site during the month of February.

The ‘Italian Gas Station Experiment’ will launch at Salt Tasting Room on February 1, and will be offered Mondays through Sundays from 4-6pm. For more information or to book a reservation, email info@nullsalttastingroom.com.

About Urbani Foods

Urbani Foods began as a retail store in East Vancouver. We introduced craft dried salami, fresh sausages and Risottoballs (arancini) to the local population, and served the immigrant community. The recipes and techniques our ancestors used are still in use today – we’ve only updated the technology. Our Risottoballs are made with the same recipe from 1867, when times were simple and this reflected on the ingredients and quality of products.
