BCLDB’s Summertime South African Wine Feature Includes  Free Consumer Tasting

This June, select South African wines will be showcased at 60 BC Liquor Stores throughout the province.  As part of the promotion, consumers will be invited to explore the country’s offerings at a FREE tasting on Thursday, June 9th 2016.  Hosted by the 39th & Cambie Signature BCLDB Store, the event will pair the wines with tasty bites from Granville Island’s Oyama Sausage Co.

South African wines are famous for their food-friendly character, so pairing them with cuisine from Oyama Sausage Co. gives them the perfect opportunity to shine.  Oyama’s outstanding handmade pâtés, fresh sausages, and cured meats recently earned the business first place (Gold) in both the Best Deli in Vancouver and Best Stall at Granville Island categories of the Westender’s Best of the City awards.  The event will provide guests with a plethora of ideas for picnics, BBQs, and summer entertaining.

Wines featured at the event were selected to represent the quality and value for which South Africa is known:

Glen Carlou Grand Classique

Inception Red

Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz

KWV Roodeberg

Nederburg Sauvignon Blanc

Nederburg Cabernet Sauvignon

Spier Signature Chenin Blanc

Stellar Organics Cabernet Sauvignon Pinotage Reserve

Stellenzicht Red Escape

The Grinder Pinotage

Two Oceans Sauvignon Blanc

Wolftrap Red

The promotion will also include free three-day tastings at other participating BC Liquor Stores throughout June.

About Oyama Sausage Co.:  John and Christine Van Der Lieck opened Oyama Sausage Co. in 2001.  Located in Granville Island’s Public Market, the shop carries a wide selection of fresh sausages and handmade pâtés, as well as cured salamis and hams.  John, whose ancestry includes five generations of Dutch and German charcuterie makers, has cultivated partnerships with local farmers and suppliers to ensure he works with only the best ingredients.  He experiments with fusions between traditional charcuterie (including recipes that have been in his family for generations) and international cuisine, drawing from the rich diversity of food cultures in Vancouver to create modern and exciting flavour combinations that reflect the multicultural mosaic of the city.
