WHAT THEY DO:

We make real fruit and botanical syrups & cordials, using fresh whole ingredients, locally sourced whenever possible.  No junk added + 100% yummy!

While we don’t take ourselves too seriously, we do believe that genuine, honest, good ingredients are all you need to make something truly fresh, delicious and fun. Our syrups and cordials are simple and uncomplicated with the unique flavor profiles that will surely delight your taste buds. We create many new flavors throughout each season, so every time you see us, it’s an invitation for a culinary adventure.

A great way to experience this is to come visit us during the summer months where you will find us shaving ice and topping it with our fresher than fresh syrups at local farmer’s markets – BUT ONLY ALONG THE SEA TO SKY (Squamish, Whistler + Pemberton), weddings and special events. (pssst: we actually shave ice year round, but this makes us sound colder than cold, rather than fresher than fresh!).

HOW THEY CAME TO BE:

After a vacation to Kauai, and an impulse purchase of the ultimate souvenir (a shave ice machine!), husband and wife team, Peggy + Martyn, created frostbites with the intention of having a fun summer together selling snow cones* at the local farmer’s market.

With only 2 main goals in mind,

1. to connect with the large farming community surrounding them
2. to connect with their diverse community along the Sea to Sky corrider

frostbites was born in the summer of 2010.

A promise of using locally sourced ingredients to make their syrups**, instead of using the artificially flavoured day-glo syrups & flavourings that were available elsewhere, Peggy + Martyn knew they were on to something great when their farmer’s market booth became a weekly stop for kids of all ages. Snow cone eating kids were happy, and parents left delighted.

This created a demand for their syrups to be packaged for take home, and kept frostbites very busy.  By the end of the summer, Peggy + Martyn decided to turn their creative and fun summer into a full time business.

*While we call them snow cones, they are actually shave (not shaved!) ice cones…the difference is that a true snow cone is actually chunky ice, but it does not hold the syrup to it.  By shaving the ice into pillowy snow, it catches every last drop of our yummy awesome sauce!

**Our snow cone syrups, once bottled, are known as cordials: a European term used to describe a fruit based drink concentrate to be diluted with water before being drunk.

WHO THEY ARE:

Peggy – With a life-long career in the food industry, and almost 20 years of travelling the world as a chef for musicians on tour, Peggy is the creative force behind frostbites. Influenced by her travels and what the farmers in the surrounding communities are growing, Peggy is ever intuitively developing new flavor profiles.  “I’ve always had a passion for local handmade foods, as well as the community experience of farmer’s markets, so this seemed like a perfect fit for me”. Always creating, always experimenting. Never boring!

Martyn – If Peggy is the creative brains, Martyn is the brawn, but it was his love of Hawaiian style shave ice and an impulse purchase of their shave ice machine after a vacation to Kauai, that led them down this road. He truly is the master ice shaver with ninja like skills when dishing up cones on any given day. A long time Whistler local, working within the service industry, Martyn was looking to get out of the corporate structure and to work in an environment that better reflected his values. “I want every day to feel like a carefree summer day”…… or a Hawaiian vacation!
