Spinal Chord Gala – ICORD with Vancouver Cantata Singers

The eight annual Spinal Chord Gala, a fundraiser in support of spinal chord research and the arts took place on Saturday, October 22, 2016. The joint venture, in support of ICORD  and the Vancouver Cantata Singers, was held in the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre’s three-story glass atrium which once again, was a fantastic backdrop to a splendid evening. Many of Vancouver’s best and brightest scientists and musicians along with their friends and supporters, gathered to recognize current advancements and help raise awareness of the research taking place at ICORD.

The evening was supported by an impressive list of academic, corporate and personal sponsors.  From a fun-filled photo booth, fines wines, a decadent array of desserts and a wide range of raffle and silent auction items, gala participants had many opportunities to enjoy the evening and help raise funds to support spinal cord research.

The arts were highlighted throughout the evening beginning with a charming performance by the Fuse Wheelchair Dance Group featuring Audrey Béliveau, Cadi Fortes and Vince Preap.  Between dynamic jazz sets performed by the TRIODE jazz trio, guests were wowed by three choral sets from the Vancouver Cantata Singers. The Blusson Spinal Cord Centre’s atrium was a stunning acoustical setting for the Vancouver Cantata Singers’ featuring an ethereal presentation of  Stars by Ēriks Ešenvalds and a moving arrangement of Franze Beibl’s Ave Maria to conclude the evening.
