Vancouver TheatreSports™ Puts the ‘Ha-ha’ in Ha-ha-happy Valentine’s

Whether boy meets girl, girl meets girl or boy meets boy, everyone knows that romance thrives when sprinkled liberally with laughter. There’s no better place for a little romance and a lot of laughter than at a Vancouver TheatreSports™ (VTSL) show. Did you know that The Improv Centre is one of Cupid’s favourite hangouts? Many patrons have told us that their first date with their now partner was a VTSL show. In fact, many first-date couples return to become engaged onstage during a performance.

This year for Valentine’s forget the box of chocolates; bring your ‘someone special’ for a week of ‘improv and chill’ as we celebrate the fun and funny of romance with three special shows we are calling Romance Weekrunning February 6 – 14 at The Improv Centre on Granville Island. VTSL’s improvisers will tickle your funny bone and put the ha-ha in Happy Valentine’s with:

  • Love Matches classic TheatreSports™ matches given a romantic twist
  • Love Unscripted – An Improvised Rom Com celebrates all the inane clichés and funny, awkward moments you’d expect to see in any romantic comedy as suggested by the audience
  • Red Hot Improv takes its cue from today’s hook-up culture. If you think OK Tinder is steamy, wait ‘til you experience Red Hot Improv’s xxx-rated hilarity. NC17

Single? Come anyway, you never know who you might meet.

In addition, there will be a week-long raffle to win a special ‘light my fire’ prize (approx. value $550) including a $100 gift certificate to Dockside Restaurant, one night in a deluxe room from The Granville Island Hotel, a hamper containing a magnum of Henkell Trocken with two champagne flutes from Mark Anthony Wine & Spirits, two premium seats to a VTSL show and a premium bottle of red or white wine to enjoy during the show.

Romance Week ‘climaxes’ with My Funny Valentine VTSL’s special Valentine’s Day event on Wednesday, February 14, and hosted by none other than Cupid himself along with the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite (aka Venus). The evening features an all-out love battle of epic proportions as three ‘improv couples’ duke it out in an audience-inspired competition to prove that love conquers all. This full evening event will also include special roving characters, a ‘Love Astrologer’ who’ll check your Love Chart (are your sun signs compatible?), personalized improvised love sonnets you can take with you, the raffle draw, and drink specials at the bar including personal-size bottles of sparkling Henkell Rosé for only $9.75.

Tickets for Romance Week shows start as low as $11.75 – less expensive as, and way more fun than, a box of chocolates.

Show times and ticket information can be found at vtsl.com.
