Shamrocks and Shenanigans, March 17

‘A whale of a time’ with Vancouver TheatreSports™

Vancouver TheatreSports™ (VTS) has some fun with all things Irish at Shamrocks & Shenanigans, the improv comedy company’s St. Paddy’s Day celebration on Saturday, March 17 at The Improv Centre on Granville Island. Patrons that night have the choice of three Irish-themed improv shows – classic TheatreSports at 7:30 pm and again at 9:30 pm plus a crazy Celtic version of OK Tinder at 11:15 pm. Each show requires a separate ticket.

Each show features the Irish theme – for instance a TheatreSports scene with dialogue made up of random Irish expressions, or what happens when your date is ‘acting the maggot’ (‘being obnoxious, behaving like an idiot’) or turns out to be one of ‘the little people.’ As in all VTS shows, the inspiration comes from audience suggestions, so no two performances can ever be the same.

‘Begosh and begorrah’ the air will be thick with Irish accents with roving Lucky Charm Leprechauns bringing pots of golden hilarity to all they encounter, and VTS’s Celtic Colleen will be improvising custom limericks for guests.

As The Improv Centre is fully licensed, patrons may ‘fancy a few scoops’ (‘partake in the consumption of sociable drinks’) at the Neil Macrae Bar & Lounge. Bar Manager Paul Belsito is getting into the ‘spirits of the evening’ with specials on Guinness (what would St. Paddy’s Day be without Guinness?), shots of Jameson Irish Whiskey and the obligatory green beer on draft all specially priced at $6.75. Don’t forget, audience members can enjoy their beverages inside the theatre as they watch the show.

People have the option of purchasing tickets for only one show or two shows or to make a night of it and purchase tickets to all three shows. Tickets for the Shamrocks and Shenanigans shows start from $10.75 and can be purchased online at tickets/vtsl.com. Whatever option is chosen, patrons will be guaranteed ‘a whale of a time’ of great laughs and convivial Celtic cheer and that’s no blarney. Slainte!
