Calling all fun, fearless females:
Registration is now open for the 2014 WOMAN2WARRIOR presented by Subway
Vancouver’s only women’s charity obstacle adventure race to benefit Easter Seals camps in British Columbia
The British Columbia Lions Society for Children with Disabilities has issued a battle cry to register for the 2014 WOMAN2WARRIOR presented by Subway, happening Sunday, May 25. Back by popular demand after its successful debut last year, the women’s-only charity obstacle adventure race helps raise funds to send over 900 kids and young adults with disabilities to one of three accessible Easter Seals camps in BC. Registration is now open at www.woman2warrior.ca.
WOMAN2WARRIOR is an untimed, five-kilometre run that dares participants to tackle trails, track and grass around Burnaby’s Central Park and Swangard Stadium. The course features a dozen obstacles designed to test strength, agility, and balance – not to mention sense of adventure.
“Unlike other obstacle-based competitions, WOMAN2WARRIOR is about the full experience, not just athletic performance,” explained Clare Charnley, director of special events for the BC Lions Society. “Our goal is to create an environment that emulates an Easter Seals camp, which encourages trying new things, taking risks in a safe and supportive setting, and of course, having fun!”
Challengers participate as individuals or in teams, with each person required to fundraise a minimum of $300. Registration costs $35 per participant (save 50% with promo code W2W50 before Monday, March 31), and includes a technical shirt, access to indoor group training sessions and prizes for the top overall fundraisers and finishers. At the inaugural WOMAN2WARRIOR in 2013, 300 participants helped raise $107,000 in support of Easter Seals BC.
“We were thrilled with the response to the first-ever WOMAN2WARRIOR last year, and we are looking forward to building on that in 2014,” added Charnley. “Given the enthusiasm of our participants, volunteers and supporters, there’s no doubt that we’ll be very happy with the outcome.”
Girls Night & Day Out indoor group training sessions start Sunday, March 16 and cost $50 for a four-date set. For more information or to register online, visit www.woman2warrior.ca.
