3rd annual Woman2Warrior in Vancouver rallies 325 local women to raise $125,000 for Easter Seals BC

More than 325 women from across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley banded together at Burnaby’s Swangard Stadium today for Woman2Warrior, Vancouver’s only all-women charity obstacle adventure race benefiting Easter Seals camps in BC. The newly proclaimed warriors conquered five kilometres of trails, track and grass along with 12 demanding obstacles to raise over $125,000, helping send more than 800 kids with physical and cognitive disabilities to accessible Easter Seals camps in BC. This year’s top individual fundraiser was Lisa McKeen, raising an impressive $2,815. The top fundraising team went to “Olga and Laurie”, raising a collective $3,900.

“We’re very pleased by the support we received for the third annual Woman2Warrior,” explained Amy Kleckner, events manager for the British Columbia Lions Society for Children with Disabilities, producer of Woman2Warrior. “It’s incredibly inspiring to see hundreds of strong, determined, powerful women come together for a cause, and form such a strong community of support for children with disabilities and their families.”

This year’s event was the biggest and best yet, complete with 13 obstacles  and the second annual Media Team Challenge, which saw 28 notable local media personalities from Global BC, The Peak, JRFM, Pattison Outdoors and Western Living magazine go head-to-head for the cause. The top title went to team “Global Glamazons,” comprised of on-air personalities Yvonne Schalle, Samantha Falk, Suzy Patrick and Amber Belzer, among others. The winning team was determined based on four factors: number of participants, team name, team costume and fundraising total.

“We are so thankful to our media participants for their ongoing support,” added Kleckner. “From creating social media buzz to kicking serious butt in our second annual Media Team Challenge, they are an invaluable part of the Woman2Warrior community.”

Woman2Warrior is just one of many annual events produced by the British Columbia Lions Society in support of Easter Seals camps in BC. The fundraiser proved so popular in its first two years that it has been expanded to both Calgary and Victoria in 2015.
