The St. Regis Hotel celebrates 110 years of
downtown Vancouver hospitality this March.
How time flies! It seems like not so long ago the St. Regis Hotel was celebrating its 100th anniversary with friends and the honour of official recognition from the City of Vancouver.
But time keeps moving on, and this March the St. Regis Hotel will reach another milestone, marking 110 years of hospitality in downtown Vancouver. It’s been a long journey with several chapters including naming and sponsoring Vancouver’s pro hockey team during WWII which played as the “Vancouver St. Regis,” hosting off-track betting and an equestrian-themed pub in the 60s, and even stand-up comedy and the so-called “businessmen’s lunch” of exotic dancing in the 80s and 90s.
For the last 15 years, since a complete renovation undertaken by owner Rob Macdonald, the St. Regis Hotel has been a favourite destination for visitors to the city who value refined accommodations and heritage surroundings in the heart of downtown Vancouver.
A commitment to constant improvement over those 15 years has included replacing the elevator, opening a direct doorway from the lobby to Gotham Steakhouse & Bar, regular mechanical and décor upgrades, and turning the original continental breakfast service into the kind of full cooked breakfast that has become increasingly rare as a complimentary inclusion. Even the pandemic couldn’t stop the work as the breakfast lounge and events room was given a complete makeover during the hotel shutdown.
Now entering its 12th decade, the year ahead promises to be an another exciting one for the St. Regis Hotel. The imminent opening of Beaucoup Bakery’s downtown location adds to the on-site dining options alongside Gotham and the St. Regis Bar & Grill, and winter room upgrades like new entertainment systems and full refurbishments alongside a new 10% discount on al direct bookings mean that guests will enjoy a hotel which feels fresh and new despite the century-plus of stories its walls could tell.
