Spanning the city from Point Grey to Main Street and Granville Island to 41st Avenue, visitors are invited to meet artists where they work, discover the stories behind the art, and enjoy a one-of-a-kind, intimate art experience. This year’s participating artists include painters, sculptors, potters, photographers, fabric artists, and more.
“We’re inviting the community into our creative spaces—often our homes,” says Alice Philips, long-time participant and Chair of the event. “It’s an opportunity to connect directly with artists, understand our process, and celebrate local creativity.”
Now in its third decade, the West of Main Art Walk—presented by the Artists in Our Midst Society—has evolved to include artists from across the Lower Mainland, while retaining the personal, grassroots feel that first inspired its founders in 1993. “The event creates real connection across the city,” notes artist Olga Campbell. “It’s so much more than a gallery visit—it’s a shared experience.”
To plan your art walk adventure, visitors can preview this year’s artists and venues at www.artistsinourmidst.com, where both a printable map and interactive Google map are available.
Art for a Cause: The Art For All Fundraiser
As part of the Society’s ongoing community outreach, many artists have contributed 6×6 inch original works—each priced at $50—to raise funds for Coast Mental Health’s art programs and a scholarship supporting Lord Byng Secondary School art student. These pieces will be available for purchase at Kits House (2305 W. 7th Ave.) during the event weekend.
Throughout the month of May, local businesses in Kitsilano, Kerrisdale, Dunbar, and South Granville will also be showcasing art walk works in their storefronts to build excitement and support for the event.
About West of Main Art Walk
Launched in 1993 by artists Pnina Granirer and Anne Adams, the West of Main Art Walk was Vancouver’s first open studio art tour. Organized by the Artists in Our Midst Society, the event is committed to promoting public engagement with the visual arts outside of traditional gallery settings and fostering art education through community partnerships.
