HONEY SALT WELCOMES VANCOUVER ARTIST SLEEPING GOBLINS

HONEY SALT WELCOMES VANCOUVER ARTIST SLEEPING GOBLINS FOR FOURTH
INSTALLMENT OF ONGOING ART-DINNER SERIES JUNE 27

Culinary, Art Worlds Collide as Executive Chef Johann Caner and Sleeping Goblins
Host Art-Focused Feast with Partial Proceeds Donated to Covenant House Vancouver.

The culinary and art worlds come together to support the community at large when Honey Salt Executive Chef Johann Caner welcomes Vancouver muralist and youth advocate Sleeping Goblins for the fourth installment of the restaurant’s ongoing Art-Dinner Serieson Friday, June 27 at Parq Casino (39 Smithe Street).

The dinner begins at 6 p.m. with a canapé reception and white sangria served on the patio followed by a curated set menu for $95 per person plus tax and gratuity, with wine pairings available for an additional $45 per person plus tax. During the event, Sleeping Goblins will create a singular large-scale piece of art featuring his bold colour and dynamic street-art style, with each guest also receiving a special menu print by the artist as a keepsake of the evening.

Partial proceeds from the night will be donated to Covenant House Vancouver — a local non-profit that serves youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness with support and housing. Sleeping Goblins is the alias of Keyvan Richardson, whose work adorns the walls of Covenant House where he also teaches drop-in art programs for youth.

Born in Iran and raised in the Vancouver area, Richardson began his artistic journey tagging and creating street art throughout his teenage years. His art is characterized by its vibrant murals and illustrations that often explore themes of identity, resilience and community.

“The work that Covenant House does is incredibly important to me because I can relate to the youth and how much of an impact support and community has,” says Richardson. “Creative outlets are incredibly valuable for youth because it can sometimes be hard to express or organize everything going on in your head, and putting it out into the world in whichever way feels the best is a great form of self therapy.”

Caner — who mastered his culinary skills at fine-dining establishments throughout Europe before bringing his expertise to Canada and the helm of Honey Salt — has created a menu for the evening that evokes his philosophy of showcasing fresh ingredients from BC farms, fields and fisheries while drawing inspiration from the murals that Sleeping Goblins continues to create at Covenant House.
