BC Hospitality Foundation Urgently Calls for Support
to Reach $65,000 Fundraising Goal
The BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) is urging British Columbians to rally behind hospitality and tourism workers in need, as its 7th Annual Spirit of Hospitality Lottery enters its final weeks. The Foundation still needs to raise $30,000 by October 30 to reach its fundraising goal.
Since 2006, the BCHF has provided over $1.28 million in direct financial support to more than 325 hospitality workers facing unexpected medical crises. These funds help individuals and families across BC cover essentials such as rent, groceries, and medical expenses while they recover.
“Every dollar makes a difference,” says Alana Dickson, executive director of the BCHF. “When someone’s facing an illness or injury, a bit of help can mean the world. We’re asking our community to come together so we can keep saying ‘yes’ when workers reach out for help.”
The Spirit of Hospitality Lottery offers ticket buyers the chance to win over $40,000 in Canadian travel and dining prizes, including a Rocky Mountaineer rail journey, a Big White ski vacation, a Sicamous houseboat adventure, and luxury getaways in Victoria, Tofino, Whistler and Quebec City.
With sales currently behind expectations, these final two weeks are critical. “It’s a story about community helping its own,” says Dickson. “We’re hopeful that British Columbians will step up to help us reach our goal and support workers when they need it most.”
The Foundation is calling on media outlets to help amplify the lottery and reach new audiences, particularly in regions where awareness of the BCHF is low. “Your coverage can ensure hospitality and tourism workers across the province know this support exists and can access it when they need it most,” Dickson adds.
