McGuigan Wines: ENTER TO WIN A CAR!
Did you enter? This was such a great prize! The draw took place on Septemer 12th and one lucky British Columbian drove away in a car. Ever wonder who that lucky McGuigan wine fan was?
Wonder no longer because we caught up to Donna the lucky winner of the McGuigan #WINACAR contest. Donna was a good sport and agreed to share her story with MyVanCity. We are happy to share.
When or how did you find out about the contest?
I found out about the “Win a Car” contest by going into a BC Liquor Penticton Plaza store, located at 405-1301 Main street, Penticton.
I saw a large wine display of bottles of McGuigan Wine, Black Label Red wine. Red wine, just what I came in for! I grabbed 2 bottles. I’d never tried their wine before.There was also a large cardboard display saying to scan the QR code and enter to win a NEW CAR!
I couldn’t believe it. I’ve seen and entered other liquor store contests for maybe a paddleboard or a cooler. Never a grand prize of a car!!
Did you enter on the spot or later online?
I was holidaying with my husband in Penticton, also seeing our grandkids in Kelowna, as we live in Prince George.
Once I made my purchase and scanned the contest, I went back to our place and went online and entered the contest.The contest was ending within a week.
When I first saw the contest my first thought was, “Gosh, wouldn’t it be great to win a car for our son,” as he and his partner had been juggling and borrowing vehicles to get to work.I thought it would be unbelievable to win, as I imagined there would be a lot of people entering, I hear there were 100 liquor stores running the contest. You had to live in BC and be 19 though. You can’t win anything if you don’t enter so I gave it a shot!!
Did you expect to win at all?
When I got the call from Leeann in Vancouver, and she said that my number is the one they drew to Win a Car!. I was in disbelief but knew I just entered so it had to be true!! My husband was listening in the room and thought for sure it must be a scam.Leeann said I was 98% the winner but had to be verified first. I needed to show proof I was a BC Resident, over 19 and other things to be verified by their lawyers. She would let me know once she received my information and I was verified.
How did it feel the moment you found out you’d won the car?
I got the call on a Saturday, so we had to wait til Monday for the lawyers to be working. I was notified a couple days later that I was officially the winner.
What was the first thing that went through your mind?
I WON A CAR!!! I was so excited I was jumping up and down. This really was unreal! What a prize gift! Leeann said it was a 2026 Honda Civic.. All taxes and fees were paid. I just had to get insurance.
What transpired immediately after finding out you were the winner?
It was in Vancouver at the Kingsway Honda dealer. We made the trip to Vancouver a couple days later. We arrived in Vancouver on Thursday (Sept 18/25) and went to Kingsway Honda. We were greeted with very happy people, for us.
What was the process you went through to receive the car?
We were told we could change the car in for a different vehicle if we wanted, but would have to pay if there would be any extra charges.
The Car was front wheel drive and thought not as practical, living in Prince George,(North),as an All Wheel Drive, SUV type of vehicle. The dealers let us test drive a few cars. We narrowed it down to a Mazda CX5-Touring Suv. It drove beautifully, only had 12,000 km and it was RED.
The same color that was shown on the contest billboard. It was meant to be. I signed all the paperwork and my husband and I left. Leeann wanted to meet me and give me some swag! MORE SWAG??!!! wow what a contest.
When we drove to meet them, they were just as excited as me, jumping up and down too. I also met Laura, marketing manager for Charton Hobbs.
What was the reaction of your friends and neighbours?
I called my family and friends and they were all excited saying “Donna, you’re so lucky!!”
How does it feel every time you get into your new car? Is it still exciting?
After they took some photos, and gave each other hugs, we were back on our way to Penticton driving our new car and on cloud nine!!
Did you buy a bottle of wine right away, or since your win? If yes, which one(s) and what was your impression of the wine?
They presented me with a large basket filled with all Australian candies, cookies and chocolates. Keeping with the Australian theme.and wine, and also a case of a variety of McGuigan wines, Whites and Reds!
I also love drinking the Black Label, McGuigan wine. I have had a chance to try a few different flavours of their wines and I am enjoying them all.
I heard you don’t own the car anymore. What happened to the car?
Back home in Prince George, I’m semi-retired and drive a car that’s not that old. I thought when I entered this contest with the hope to win it for our son soooooo……
Tell us about your “pinch me” moment.
I called him to tell him “I won YOU a new car!!!” it was a very exciting moment for me too. Now I know how the organizers felt like, when they phoned me with the exciting news. He thought it was unbelievable too.
This couldn’t have happened at a better time. No more worrying about how to get to work.

I can’t thank McGuigan wines enough for putting together such an amazing contest!!. I also love drinking the Black Label, McGuigan wine.I have had a chance to try a few different flavors of their wines and I am enjoying them all. I looked up on line the McGuigan Wine company and didn’t realize they sell quite a large selection of wines, from Champagne to even zero alcohol wines. I will be also trying these out.
Now my family and some friends, are following McGuigan wines on instagram and purchasing the McGuigan wine.
