This World Tourism Day, BC Looks Beyond Summer Toward Regenerative Travel

As the busy summer travel season winds down, World Tourism Day (Sept. 27) offers a moment to pause and reflect. Where did we go? What did we experience? And most importantly—what impact did our journeys leave behind?

This World Tourism Day, Re:BC is aligning its ongoing “Re-education on Regeneration” campaign with The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)’s 2025 theme of Tourism and Sustainable Transformation. The campaign underscores how BC is moving beyond sustainability toward travel that actively gives back. From slower, lower-impact ways of exploring, to traveller contributions in stewardship initiatives, to Indigenous-led experiences, Re:BC is demonstrating what transformation looks like in practice, right here in BC.

While many destinations talk about regenerative tourism as a future ideal, in BC it’s happening now. The fall season, with its quieter pace, creates the perfect opportunity for more intentional, place-connected travel – offering a hopeful model for how tourism can foster reciprocity, resilience, and respect for both people and place.

About RE:BC

Redefining responsible recreation

At RE:BC, we believe travel should give more than it takes. Our mission is to co-create regenerative travel initiatives that restore ecosystems, support local economies, and deepen the connection between travelers and place.

RE:BC isn’t just another travel tool—it’s a movement rooted in community, stewardship, and reciprocity. We collaborate with Indigenous leaders, residents, and tourism partners to shape journeys that are intentional, respectful, and place-based. From reducing ecological impact to uplifting local stories, we’re reimagining what it means to explore British Columbia—one thoughtful trip at a time.
