We did it again! The “ladies” group in my cond

We did it again! The “ladies” group in my condo development meet monthly sharing new experiences and discovering theatre, museums, places of interest and popular dining spots!

All in fun because we don’t take ourselves too seriously, just good times and camaraderie. We’ve been known to be a little boiterous at times.

Roll it all together and you get our recent wine tasting experience. We had so much fun tasting wines and learning a little bit along the way.

Here is what we tasted:

From my shelf a Hester Creek Ti Amo, a delicious and refreshing sparkler to kick things off.

Hester Creek Viognier a refreshing white that was light and crisp.

Hester Creek Cabernet Franc Rosé a classic with punchy fruit flavours and a dark rich colour in the glass.

Hester Creek Syrah. What could be more B.C. than a luscious Syrah. Here we went off script somewhat, I decanted one bottle for about four hours and gave it 30 minutes in the wine fridge. Serving the non decanted wine first followed by the decanted ever so lightly chilled Syrah al a @anthonygiglio

It was a way to compare individual tastes and follows my mantra of “drink what you like” with no judgements. The room was fairly evenly split with a slight majority preferring the decanted Syrah.

So our wine exploration begins. Can’t wait for next time.

Cellar Worthy Wines from Vasanti – Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

I am blessed with a family of great cooks. We tend to get together for the holidays and Family Day Weekend was no exception. Dinner for 10.

On the menu was Potato and Leek Bisque followed by Beef Bourguignon and I knew exactly which wines were going to pair perfectly with the dish. I brought both the Vasanti Cabernet Sauvignon and the Vasanti Merlot just to cover all the bases.

It really was difficult to pick just one of these wines as my favourite, but I diligently persevered tasting the wines, comparing and savouring. In the end it was the Cabernet Sauvignon by a nose.

Beautiful scents of dark fruits tantalize and tease the nose. For me the aromas of the wine speak volumes about the quality and taste to come. I like to take time to just enjoy identifying those moments as the complexity of the wine shows through.

Initially ripe blackberries, followed by Italian plum, a hint of rosemary. As it swirls in the glass the more subtle aromas emerge, although less prominent still distinctive. Leather and hints of allspice.

On the palate the essence of richness gives way to the luscious ripe fruit, wild blackberries fresh from the vine, some cranberry, and dark cherries in their juice. The tannins are delicate, the wine like velvet in the mouth.

Of the two wines I would deem this one to be the more sophisticated, slightly finer depending on the individual palate. For me it was smooth and rich with ripe fruit flavours prevalent.

This wine is so delicious it is tempting to enjoy it now, and you should, but this is also a wine to save. A cellar-worthy wine that will only improve with age.

Cellar Worthy Wines from Vasanti – Merlot 2021

I am blessed with a family of great cooks. Most occasions include a big family dinner.

The Merlot is earthier and bold, in the best way. Perfect for those looking for a wine that comes across as a bit rustic and robust. For wine lovers not looking for the delicate sophistication I found in the Vasanti Cabernet Sauvignon.

This wine is leaner, exhibiting ripe notes of blackberries, stewed plums, leather and tobacco mixed with pepper and cinnamon. A tantalizing mixture that was distinctive.

On the palate it continued to impress with fruit forward, dense flavour with tannins that were less refined. Again a wine with boldness and integrity. No sipper this wine, it is meant to be enjoyed with gusto.

The wine can be unpredictable which makes it challenging yet smoothly rich and hearty. The perfect foil for rustic fare, more beef stew than Beef Bourguignon, it appeals to the wine drinker that appreciates a savoury, spicy finish.

This wine is ready now and will continue to impress for a few years yet.
