Exploring the journey of becoming a Woman

Live dance performance reveals what’s in a journey to becoming a woman

Exploring the journey of becoming a woman from adolescence to maturity, 27 local dancers of the Richmond Youth Dance Company will perform Becoming, premiering at the Richmond Cultural Centre with three shows from March 7 to 9, 2014.

Becoming can refer to a great deal of experiences, many involving act of transformation from what was, to what an individual will be.

Choreographed by Richmond Arts Centre instructor, Miyouki Jego, the show presents contemporary and ballet numbers. Additional choreography was provided by Vanessa Coley-Donuhue, with guest artists Ian Greenwood and Megan Philips.

This original production also features live piano accompaniment. Winnie Wong, also a local talent, will perform a variety of pieces throughout the show on the Richmond Arts Centre’s new grand piano.

The performances take place Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, March 9 at 1:30 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate. Tickets are $7 (tax included) and are available in advance at the Cultural Centre or by calling 604-247-8300 starting February 17. If not previously sold out, tickets will also be available at the door.
