Richmond Days of Summer returns with fun community events all summer long

With 30 per cent more sunny days than most Metro Vancouver cities, Richmond is your best bet to enjoy fun in the sun all summer long. From June through August, more than two dozen festivals and special events make up the Richmond Days of Summer – and most of them are free. Arts, culture, sports, heritage, family-oriented festivals and more…there’s fun for everyone. Highlights from this summer’s event calendar include:

Doors Open Richmond takes place June 7-8, 2014. Enjoy a diverse mix of arts, culture and heritage at the 7th annual Doors Open festival. Up to 50 sites in Richmond will be free for the public. Indulge in art and history with access to artists, museums, aboriginal groups, religious institutions, parks and other public and private arts, culture and heritage sites. Take in interpretative and intercultural performances, story-telling, demonstrations and tours at this one-of-a-kind event. For further information on these events visit www.richmond.ca/doorsopen.

Ships to Shore returns to Steveston June 29-July1, 2014. Relive the days when Richmond was a major port-of-call for sailing ship fleets. Parlay with pirates, board tall ships and search for treasure as historic Steveston Village comes alive with free events and activities for the whole family. It’s also Canada Day long weekend, so don’t forget to check out the Steveston Salmon Festival – a fun filled event to celebrate Canada’s birthday. The Richmond Maritime Festival is taking over the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site from August 8-10, 2014. But whatever you do, don’t forget to visit the bounty of beautiful boats and ships moored at the 190-metre (600-ft) dock. Free and fun for all ages, the Richmond Maritime Festival is one of Metro Vancouver’s largest  summer events. You don’t want to miss it. Find more information at www.richmondmaritimefestival.ca
