“Good, better, best” described the three levels of local white and red wines that Sam Hauck, The Wine Teacher, guided a group of forty wine enthusiasts through on September 10th. The event was also a good opportunity for those wanting to further discover the characteristics and subtleties of chardonnay and merlot and to sample some great BC wines along the way. This Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) wine tasting fundraiser was sponsored by the Methanex and Friends – Light the Night team and was held at the inspiring and award-winning hospitality lounge of Deans Knight’s office, (Methanex) overlooking the harbour in beautiful downtown Vancouver.
After going over some tasting basics, attendees sampled six different wines, each followed by a discussion and analysis of the wine’s appearance, aroma, balance, taste and finish, which helped to embed the lessons of enjoying wine and understanding differences in quality.
Needless to say, those who attended will be better equipped when wandering the aisles trying to decide which wine to buy.
Thanks to everyone who attended and contributed towards the cause. Over four thousand dollars was raised for blood cancer research and patient support. This wine tasting fundraiser was one of many events held to increase the knowledge about the mission of LLSC, which is to:
- cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma
- improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
