Lunch at Milestones Coquitlam

A friend of mine, who I hadn’t seen in quite a while, was going to be out in my neck of the woods and suggested getting together for lunch.  I was open to anything and he suggested Milestones.

I’ve been to Milestones several times over the years, usually for meetings, get-togethers or family dinners.  It has always been fine, but nothing special, somewhat predictable and a little on the pricey side.  This time was a pleasant surprise.

We ordered the Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip for a starter.  It was good and it came with plenty of tortilla chips.  My friend ordered the Montreal Stack, which is Montreal smoked meat with cheddar, caramelized onions and a side of blackberry ketchup.  If you don’t have a big appetite, this would be a good sandwich to share.

I wasn’t too hungry and was considering a bowl of soup, but I am not a fan of mushrooms and the soup that day was a special three mushroom concoction.  I am sure it would have been great for a fungi aficionado, but it wasn’t my cup of tea.  Then I spotted the Ahi Tuna Tacos – seared pepper crusted Ahi tune, cilantro lime slaw, avocado cream with crispy avocado on the side.  This was delicious.  Perfectly cooked, no skimping on the black pepper and the cilantro and lime provided the perfect contrast.  I had never had, nor heard of breaded avocado before and was quite fond of it.  Again, it was cooked just right.  Be sure to give it a try the next time you’re there.

Milestones is a popular eatery in the Tri Cities.  The restaurant was quite busy for a Friday lunch hour, with a couple of birthday parties happening, but the service was good.
