Artist Amelia Alcock-White Launches Fourth Solo Exhibition “Solitudes”

Petley Jones Gallery is pleased to present Solitudes, a solo exhibition of new work by Amelia Alcock-White. Art lovers and enthusiasts are invited to the exhibition opening on October 23 for an exceptional evening of fine art, a book release, live music and a chance to meet the artist.

Amelia Alcock-White’s latest collection of aquatic landscapes depicts a lone figure taking refuge in secluded coastal surroundings. By juxtaposing light and dark, fire and water, with nature’s beauty and fragility, the images suggest the interrelation of personal awareness and environmental consciousness. Loose brushwork and the viscous texture of the oils reconstruct the vibrant wild of the west coast.

“In the Solitudes collection I embrace the rugged coasts of BC and the magic of its ancient forests to create a dialogue around the environmental issues that affect us today,” said Amelia Alcock-White.

As part of the Solitudes exhibition, Alcock-White will be releasing a limited edition catalogue of the exhibit. The book includes commentary by artists Bo Bartlett and Betsy Eby, gallery director Matt Petley Jones, and an interview with Fabian Flintoff.

Bo Bartlett, notable American realist painter remarks, “Life is a great mystery, which we embrace and bow-down to, hold on to, and let go of. Amelia Alcock White’s paintings honor this journey. They are fearless. They are signposts for what we need.”
