Butcher and Bullock Cask Night

At the invitation of Liam Peyton, Beer Ambassador for the Donnelly Group, I headed down to the Butcher and Bullock on West Pender, just east of Burrard, for their ‘Smoregasboard’ beer event. The crew from Parallel 49 was on hand to tap their cask of a special brew.

The background here is that a Knob Creek Bourbon barrel had been presented to Parallel 49 and they were tasked with making a exclusive beer in it. They decided a Chocolate Imperial Stout would be just the right ticket.

If you like dark chocolate then this was the brew for you.

Three bottles of Knob Creek Bourbon was added to this beer, so it is no wonder it was a high alcohol (10% +) tipple. This was no wimpy stout by any means. It had good mouthfeel with lots of body. Dark liquid chocolate dominated the palate with lingering dark chocolate bitterness on the finish. It was reminiscent of liquid liquor-filled chocolates – rich and creamy dark chocolate infused with a hint of bourbon.

The Butcher and Bullock stepped up to this challenge with a chocolate fountain complete with strawberry skewers, Cinnamon coffee cake, graham crackers and homemade, torched marshmallows to pair with this decadent brew.

Thanks Liam!
