Theme results are in – “Things with Wings”

After receiving over 650 votes for the 2016 sand sculpting theme, the Parksville Beach Festival Society is pleased to announce the results. The public was asked to vote online and in person at Quality Foods in Nanoose Bay, Parksville and Qualicum Beach for their favorite theme from a choice of three: “Wild West”, “Explore, Discover, Invent”, and “Things with Wings”. The majority (43%) voted for “Things with Wings” while “Wild West” took second place, capturing 34% of the votes. “Explore, Discover, Invent” came in 3rd place at 23%.

“We are excited about this year’s theme”, commented Event Manager, Wendy Sears, who also surveyed past sculptors. “Many of our professional sculptors voted in-favour of this theme as it will be broad enough to allow for sculpting creativity”, said Sears.

Parksville Beach Festival Society volunteers can now start to design the summer events around this new theme. Society President, Cheryl Dill, reported that the opening weekend, entertainment and a new event will incorporate a “things with wings” theme. “We aim to please the public and very much appreciate their input in helping us chart the course for Parksville’s summertime hallmark event”, commented Dill.

Beachfest’s 2016 Quality Foods Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition will take place July 15- August 21, featuring international artists sculpting sand alongside Parksville’s coveted beach in the community park.
