Sharing an inspiring story regarding the upcoming BMO Vancouver Marathon on May 4 and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice children and families who are participating!
Canuck Place is BC and the Yukon’s only pediatric palliative care provider, caring for over 920 children with life-threatening illnesses and the families who love them.
Canuck Place teen, Charlie-Anne Cox is running and rolling 21km for the 5th year in a row with team “Charlie’s Angels”, raising funds for Canuck Place. The team is hoping to raise $60k and are 92% to their goal! Over the last few years they have raised half a million dollars for Canuck Place, so expect that fundraising goal to keep increasing!
15-year-old Charlie-Anne has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type 1 and wasn’t supposed to see her first birthday. SMA is a genetic condition that causes muscle weakness and atrophy and affects a child’s ability to crawl, walk, sit up, and control their head movements. It also causes severe damage to the muscles used for breathing and swallowing.
Canuck Place mom, Aubrey Delima is also on team “Charlie’s Angels” and is running the full marathon for her daughters Lauren and Jenna. Lauren, who passed away while on Canuck Place’s program in 2010, had Propionic Acidemia. Her sister Jenna also has Propionic Acidemia

Aubrey and her family are Filipino-Canadian and she credits her wonderful family and community for their support every step of the way.
