The Barrio de la Estación consolidates its commitment to internationalization
with the third edition of BEIWE: Burgundy

The Barrio de la Estación Association closes the third edition of its professional day,
BEIWE, with a record number, bringing together more than 600 professionals.

The twinning with Burgundy reaffirms and consolidates the commitment to
internationalization of the wineries of Barrio de la Estación.

Haro joins the Burgundy wine region in the Barrio de la Estación International Wine Encounters III: Burgundy. The professional day, which took place on Monday, May 19, in various venues in Haro’s Barrio de la Estación, was attended by more than 600 professionals from the wine sector, including sommeliers, purchasing managers, hospitality owners, press and others. On this occasion, C.V.N.E., Bodegas Gómez Cruzado, La Rioja Alta, S.A., Bodegas Bilbaínas – Viña Pomal, Bodegas Muga and Bodegas RODA hosted the Burgundian houses Maison Albert-Bichot, Maison Olivier Leflaive, Ropiteau Frères, Maison Joseph Drouhin, Maison Louis Jadot and Domaine Laroche & Maison Champy.

“Once again this year, the Barrio de la Estación dresses up and opens its doors to show the world the richness of the legacy of the wine culture of our region, through the excellence of its wines. We are fully satisfied with the development of this third international meeting, accompanied, in this case, by important Burgundy houses. The good response received by the guests to this event, as well as the professional level of the attendees shows us, once again, that Barrio de la Estación is a hallmark that characterizes us and defines us as a world reference in winemaking. The success of this year’s event encourages us to continue working to defend our region, our land, our history and our wine culture. In addition, we continue to demonstrate that together we are capable of going further,” says Mayte Calvo de la Banda Salgado, winemaker at Bodegas Bilbaínas and current president of the Barrio de la Estación Association.

As in previous editions, as happened with Bordeaux in 2022 or Piedmont in 2023, the wineries of the Barrio de la Estación have wanted to show the similarities that unite them with the Burgundian wineries. On this occasion, these points of union are an exceptional winemaking tradition, artisanal winemaking processes adapted to the present, as well as an exquisite care in preserving the essence of a unique landscape and culture. They also share a unique diversity of terroirs: both regions treasure historic vineyards, undoubtedly privileged, with the best natural conditions to produce great wines in the world.

As Mayte Calvo explains: “The event held today has shown the links that unite us with Burgundy, consolidating a commitment to the origin and territory reflected in each wine, in the form of structure and elegance. The success of this year’s professional day would not have been possible without the collaboration of the important French houses that have accompanied us today. These are leading wineries from one of the most renowned and prestigious wine regions in France, who from this day on have become our traveling companions”. And he continues, “I must greatly appreciate the assistance of the Burgundian wineries, their willingness, as well as congratulate them for the excellence of the wines they have presented to us today. It has been a day of conviviality in which we have shared not only our wines, but also knowledge, concerns, challenges and challenges. I am confident that today is the first day of a twinning that will surely lead both regions to defend our historic legacy of wine culture around the world”.

Barrio de la Estación International Wine Encounters (BEIWE), promoted by the Barrio de la Estación Association, demonstrates the vocation for the international projection of the wineries of the Barrio, by twinning with prestigious winemakers from the most important wine regions of the world, with whom they share history, know-how and an ethical vision of winemaking. This third edition, with Burgundy as guest, consolidates this essential event for professionals and wine lovers.

Twinning between Burgundy and El Barrio de la Estación
The professionals of the sector who attended this third edition of BEIWE were able to learn about the history, philosophy and elaborations of six great Burgundian houses: Maison Albert-Bichot, Maison Olivier Leflaive, Ropiteau Frères, Maison Joseph Drouhin, Maison Louis Jadot y Domaine Laroche & Maison Champy. CVNE, Bodegas Gómez Cruzado, La Rioja Alta, S.A., Bodegas Bilbaínas – Viña Pomal, Bodegas Muga and Bodegas RODA have taken advantage of this twinning to show the attendees the vintages of their most outstanding wines on the market.

The day, as in every edition, was complemented by an exceptional tasting program developed by the six participating wineries in the Barrio. Vertical tastings, such as that of Bodegas Muga, with a tour of the best vintages of its iconic Muga Selección Especial; as well as that of Bodegas RODA, with a journey through the last three vintages of CIRSION and RODA I Blanco. La Rioja Alta, S.A. focused on the new vintages of its Grandes Reservas to be released this year and, in the case of CVNE, the tasting of its great wines from Haro was offered with a tour of its new exhibition, installed in Hall 2 of the winery. Bodegas Gómez Cruzado’s tasting focused on its wine Montes Obarenes and the grape varieties that make up its coupage. And finally, Bodegas Bilbaínas – Viña Pomal invited visitors to learn, with a live demonstration, all the secrets of manual disgorgement of quality sparkling wine.
