Southern-Style Whiskey Meets its Match in Canada with the Debut of
BEARFACE BEAR-BON™ Whisky This March
Proudly Canadian Makers of Award-winning BEARFACE® Whisky Create
a Unique Take on a Classic Taste
Blenders of the breakthrough, Elementally Aged® BEARFACE® Whisky have unleashed something new from the den. BEAR-BON is its own, distinctly Canadian whisky that takes over where American bottles left off.
BEARFACE BEAR-BON™ Charred Barrel Whisky is the latest release to join the wildly popular, award-winning Elementally Aged® BEARFACE® Whisky lineup. It, too, breaks new ground, and its initial production run is already fully allocated.
BEAR-BON is the culmination of years’ worth of craft. In 2018, Master Blender Andres Faustinelli pioneered Elementally Aged® BEARFACE® Whisky, taking advantage of radical swings in weather in the extreme north to tease intense flavours from select barrels during the aging process, then blending those flavours into a wild whisky like no other.
With BEAR-BON, Andrés flipped his focus from triple oak to triple grain—and reimagined the traditional Southern-style mash bill (corn, barley, and rye) through a very special barrel. He uses two-year-seasoned and toasted French oak casks previously used for winemaking in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, then seasons them with Elementally Aged whisky. They’re then charred by hand in Quebec. The char, on top of the toasted oak seasoned with wine and whisky, uniquely integrates the barrels’ best flavours with BEAR-BON’s Canadian-grown grains.
The result is a beautiful, medium amber-coloured whisky that’s a familiar yet complex step up for drinkers of traditional American spirits. Confectionary flavours from the Canadian corn that dominates the mash bill land on the tongue first, along with smooth caramel notes from layers of charred oak. Toasty malted barley rounds out a deeply gratifying mid-palate. Rich, aromatic rye first gives warm spice sensations and finishes dry.
“This is jazz for whisky lovers,” Andrés Faustinelli says. “We took the scenic route to arrive at a truly southern style flavour—it’s a totally different path. He adds, “This blend is only possible because of the foundation we built with Elementally Aged® BEARFACE® Whisky. While the profile is similar to Southern-style whisky, the process behind it is unique to Canada—made possible by the flexibility to be creative in how whisky is made here. We were intentional about preserving the DNA of Elementally Aged® as we created BEAR-BON, resulting in a whisky that can only be made in Canada.”
BEAR-BON will launch in British Columbia on Monday, March 2, and across additional Canadian markets, late spring. To join in on the wildly anticipated release, Vancouver residents can be among the first to taste and get their paws on BEAR-BON at the ‘Meet the Maker Bottle Signing’ event hosted at the 39th and Cambie Signature BC Liquor Store on Wednesday, March 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Further event details can be found here.
A familiar, yet wild take on anything to come before it in Canada, this Bear stands its ground. Retail pricing varies by province, available at BC Liquor Stores for $44.99 CAD.
