WINE, FOOD EVENTS AND CLASSES FOR SPRING & SUMMER

The Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts (PICAChef) is heating up the spring and summer session with a new slate of classes for cooks of all ages taking place May through July at the Granville Island campus.
The latest offering of unique, can’t-miss events featuring the PICA team of chefs and students includes two May classes — Summer in a Glass: Fresh Wines for Warm Days on Tues., May 19 and Flour + Water: A Pasta Master Class on Sat., May 23 — as well as an Auguste Escoffier-themed pop-up dinner on Weds., June 3 and four week-long sessions of Summer Cooking Classes designed for kids and teens on July 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Summer in a Glass: Fresh Wines for Warm Days
Tues., May 19, 6-8 p.m., $98 per person + tax
Flour + Water: A Pasta Master Class
Sat., May 23, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m., $159 per person + tax
Guests can gather and enjoy two hands-on culinary experiences in May that are ideal for kicking off the warmer days that lie ahead.
On Tues., May 19, Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers President and Somm will host a Summer in a Glass: Fresh Wines for Warm Days event and lead participants on a tasting journey of vibrant whites, cool rosés and crushable reds that pair effortlessly with sunshine and barbecue season and make every patio evening feel like a reason to celebrate. On Sat., May 23, guests can fully realize the ‘pastabilities’ of taking their pasta game to a whole new level by delving into the theory and understanding of the magic that happens when flour and water are mixed with fresh eggs and oil. Participants will explore the technique of pasta lamination and how to turn it into fan-favourites like linguine, fettucine and pappardelle as well as stuffed pastas like ravioli, tortellini and more. AUGUSTE ESCOFFIER POP-UP DINNER
Weds., June 3, 6-9 p.m., $79.99 per person + tax

Guests are in for a true treat during this one-night-only event celebrating the father of modern French cuisine and legendary chef who shaped the way professional kitchen brigades still cook today. Guided by Chef-instructors, PICAChef students will bring Escoffier’s classic repertoire to life with a menu rooted in elegance, precision and pure indulgence that features warm Comté gougères, crystal-clear Consommé Célestine, Sole Dieppoise, Filet de Boeuf à la Rossini and the iconic Pêche Melba. WEEK-LONG SUMMER COOKING CAMPS FOR KIDS & TEENS
Mondays through Fridays throughout July from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Parents can help their budding chefs develop their skills during week-long sessions of food, fun and teamwork as they dive into hands-on cooking and baking camps with professional chef-instructors and learn all-new recipes to recreate at home for friends and family. Each day brings something new, from knife skills and a Mexican fiesta to pasta-making, baking day and a tour of global flavours in small, interactive classes designed to build real kitchen confidence and practical skills. The four week-long events take place July 6-10, July 13-18, July 20-25 and July 27-31 and include a PICAChef branded apron to use in class and take home after the sessions.
