Award-winning storyteller Glenn Tkach launches intimate live storytelling series exploring forgotten queer history in early Vancouver.
The Pink Hat, in partnership with iconic Davie Village bookstore Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium, announced today the launch of Queer Confidential: Six True Stories of Queer Vancouver Before 1950. Created and hosted by Glenn Tkach – the award-winning storyteller behind Vancouver’s acclaimed Really Gay History Tour – this live, limited-capacity event takes place on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Queer Confidential pulls back the curtain on early local history. Drawing from years of archival research, trial transcripts, and court records, Tkach brings to light six forgotten narratives of Two-Spirit, racialized, and other queer voices, detailing scandals, defiance, and survival in pre-1950s Vancouver.
“I’ve spent years digging through court records and archives to bring this city’s hidden past into the light,” says creator Glenn Tkach. “Some history gets written down. The rest gets lost entirely until someone goes looking for it. These stories highlight the presence of queer people living in Vancouver, at a time when their identities could not be spoken of or even named. Told in a room where they truly belong.”
Hosted at Little Sister’s – a cornerstone of Vancouver’s queer community – the event marks the first in a planned series of live storytelling events. Seating is strictly capped at 40 attendees to maintain an intimate setting.
Following the one-hour presentation, attendees are invited to stay until 10:00 PM for mixing, browsing, and community engagement. All ticket holders will receive an exclusive 10% discount on all in-store purchases throughout the evening.
Advance tickets are already selling, with remaining tickets opening to the general public on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
