Summerland Waterfront Resort turns Corporate Gatherings
into Support for BC Wildfire Recovery
The resort will fund one tree for every attendee at
every corporate meeting, retreat, conference and group event
In response to a wildfire that changed its team and community, Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa is introducing a new initiative connecting every corporate gathering at the resort with the restoration of wildfire-affected forests in British Columbia.
Moving forward, the resort will cover the full cost of planting one tree through Veritree (a restoration platform) for every attendee at every corporate meeting, retreat, conference and group event it hosts. There is no minimum group size or special qualifying event.
A corporate retreat with 100 attendees, for example, will result in 100 trees planted in a wildfire-affected area of British Columbia.
The initiative follows the Bald Range wildfire, which forced the resort to evacuate and temporarily close during the height of the summer tourism season. Team members were evacuated, some lost their homes, and the surrounding community experienced an event with lasting personal, economic and environmental effects.

“The Bald Range wildfire changed our team and community in ways that will be felt for years,” said Lisa Jaager, general manager of Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa. “We could not simply reopen our doors and carry on as though nothing had happened. This initiative gives us a tangible way to support the restoration of wildfire-affected forests while inviting every corporate group that gathers here to be part of something meaningful.”
Veritree uses technology to monitor and verify restoration projects, providing transparency into planting activities and their impact. The resort will fund each tree at no additional cost to meeting organizers. Corporate groups will also have the option to make an additional contribution if they wish to extend the impact of their event.
“The effects of wildfire do not end when evacuation orders are lifted or the headlines fade,” said Jaager. “By choosing Summerland for a meeting or retreat, organizations can support our local tourism economy while also contributing to the long-term recovery of a wildfire-affected area in our province.”

The initiative is part of a broader effort to welcome visitors back and support Summerland’s tourism economy following a challenging summer.
This fall, the resort is also bringing back its Redefined Date Night and iKhaya Spa packages and introducing a reciprocal accommodation offer with Tantalus Resort Lodge in Whistler.
Redefined Date Night includes a one-night suite stay, an in-suite dinner for two from Flambé at Home, private-label wine and a gourmet breakfast basket. It is available for stays from October 15, 2026, to March 20, 2027.

Returning September 30, the iKhaya Spa Package includes a one-night suite stay, a bottle of wine and a $100 spa gift card. It is available Wednesday through Saturday until March 20, 2027, excluding December 20, 2026, to January 5, 2027.
And outside of Summerland, through a new reciprocal offer, guests of Summerland Waterfront Resort and Whistler’s Tantalus Resort Lodge will receive deals on a future stay at the other property.
