Keefer House Unveils “Humanity Heals” Mural by Artist Rory Doyle
In collaboration with the Dr. Peter Centre

Kalido Hospitality Group has unveiled a powerful new public artwork at Keefer House, its design-forward aparthotel in Vancouver’s Chinatown. Created by multidisciplinary artist Rory Doyle, the mural “Humanity Heals” is a collaboration with the Dr. Peter Centre, an organization providing compassionate care for people living with HIV and complex health and social needs.

Keefer House officially opens on October 20, 2025, with the mural serving as a colourful gateway into Chinatown, visible from multiple vantage points downtown and the viaduct. The artwork depicts individual figures that, when seen together, form a heart — a collective expression of love, resilience, and shared humanity.

This mural is about connection and the idea that healing doesn’t happen in isolation,” said Doyle. “We’re all held by community, by compassion.” By partnering with the Dr. Peter Centre, the project underscores the power of collaboration and honours the organization’s inclusive approach to care. Keefer House, situated in one of Vancouver’s most historic neighbourhoods and the only hotel, provides a fitting canvas for this message of strength and community.

The mural is NOW on view at Keefer House (123 Keefer St. ), accompanied by an audio narrative that shares the story and inspiration behind the piece.

Healing Through Connection

Humanity Heals, a striking mural at Keefer House, emerges from the intersection of creativity, care, and community. A collaboration between Kalido Hospitality, the Dr. Peter Centre, and artist Rory Doyle, the piece is a vivid testament to the power of compassion. Depicting human figures converging to form a heart, it celebrates the transformative strength found in connection and collective healing. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Vancouver’s Chinatown, this mural intertwines art, place, and purpose — an enduring symbol of resilience and unity.

in Action

The Dr. Peter Centre is a licensed healthcare facility that provides compassionate support to people living with complex health and social conditions, including HIV/AIDS, mental illness, addiction, unstable housing, and emotional trauma.

Founded in honour of Dr. Peter Jepson-Young—whose CBC video diaries in the 1990s challenged the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS—the Centre has become a beacon of care, advocacy, and holistic healing.

Located in Vancouver’s West End, the Centre serves more than 88,000 nutrient-dense meals to over 500 participants and residents each year. Alongside medical care, participants have access to a wide range of therapeutic services, including counselling, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Recreational Therapy, and culturally grounded programs such as Indigenous Wellness and Latino initiatives. Through this holistic model, the Centre is developing solutions for the “sidelined 2%”: the 750,000 Canadians who face precarious access to traditional healthcare.
