“In this series we bring you our #FavouriteThings Holiday Gift Suggestions
which we personally recommend”
After enjoying the Bartier Bros. wines this summer I have been waiting, not too patiently I might add, to taste this selection of wines that chase the winter blues away. There is something for every wine lover on your list, including for yourself.
Here are the wines we are recommending:
Syrah 2022

Beautifully balanced between fruit and minerality, and rich and fresh.
The Syrah 2022 was hand harvested in October 2022 (as was the Merlot – 7%), the fruit was de-stemmed and crushed into an oak tank, with 15% whole clusters retained for added complexity. Fermentation was carried out with cultured yeast, reaching a peak temperature of 32°C, followed by a 23-day maceration. The wine then aged for 16 months in 225 L neutral French barrels and a neutral oak tank.
Tasting Notes
Fresh blackberry, black pepper, and violet notes weave through the aroma, palate, and finish. The wine is structured yet balanced, showcasing a harmony of fruit and minerality that carries through a long, elegant finish.
Food Pairings
Pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, braised short ribs, roasted duck, or mushroom dishes. Its spice and structure also make it a natural match for charcuterie and aged cheeses.
The Grapes:
- 93% Syrah, 7% Merlot
Vineyard:
- Cerqueira Vineyard, Black Sage Terrace, Oliver, BC
- Grown on mostly granite glacial till with a sandy loam topsoil
- Vertcial Shoot Positioning (VSP) and cane pruning (double Guyot)
Merlot 2022

Bright fruit, great structue – the whole package.
The 2022 Merlot opens with a vibrant hit of ripe blueberry, bringing a touch of fresh, juicy sweetness right off the bat. This fruit-forward beginning gives way to a stony, almost mineral quality—think wet stone after rain—that adds a nice complexity. The tannins are soft and approachable, giving a smooth texture to the wine without overpowering. As it finishes, there’s a distinct, “gun-flint” note that lingers beautifully, stretching out the wine’s flavors for a long, satisfying end. It’s an expressive Merlot with layers that keep you coming back for more.
Pair the Merlot with grilled lamb chops, charcuterie, burgers, and mushroom risotto
The Merlot 2022 was hand harvested on October 17, 2022.. They were de-stemmed and crushed into 5-ton & 10-ton open top fermenters. It was then innoculated with a cultured yeast, fermented and macerated for 22-days with temperature spiking at 28C. After maceration the wine spent 15 months in neutral French oak before being bottled in February 2022.
The Grapes:
- 100% Merlot
Vineyard:
- Cerqueira Vineyard, Black Sage Terrace, Oliver, BC
- Grown on mostly granite glacial till with a sandy loam topsoil
- Vertcial Shoot Positioning (VSP) and cane pruning (double Guyot)
Illegal Curve 2022

Bold and smooth.
A bold and dynamic red blend of mostly Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the Illegal Curve has ripe plum, blackberry, and a touch of pepper.
Cabernet Franc 2022

Vibrant with silky tannins
The aromas and flavours of the Cabernet Franc 2022 are dominated by blackberry, plum and cordite with velvety soft tannins and a stoney, flinty finish.
Pair the Cabernet Franc with tomato based dishes, smokey BBQ, dishes featuring rich legumes, and strong cheeses.
The Cabernet Franc 20212 was hand harvested on October 17, 2022 and the Merlot on October 14, 2022. They were de-stemmed and crushed into 5-ton & 10-ton open top fermenters. It was inoculated with a cultured yeast, fermented and macerated for 24-days. After maceration the wine spent 14 months in neutral French oak before being bottled in February 2022. This wine is unfined and unfiltered.
The Grapes:
- 92% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot
Vineyard:
- Cerqueira Vineyard, Black Sage Terrace, Oliver, BC
- Grown on mostly granite glacial till with a sandy loam topsoil
- Vertcial Shoot Positioning (VSP) and cane pruning (double Guyot)
Pinot Noir 2022

Pinot Noir 2022 is like biting into ripe, juicy black cherries. It has great structure thanks to the soft tannins. The balance between fruitiness and minerality is just right, and it lingers pleasantly on the palate for a long finish.
Enjoy it with your favorite grilled dishes or a cozy evening in.
Food Pairings:
- Roast Duck
- Roasted Vegetable Tart
- Pork Tenderloin
- Grilled Salmon

The Bartier Bros.
We’re from this Valley. We grew up here, we know it, we love it, we are a product of it and we feel responsible to it. Our wines are an expression of the valley, being true to the language that can describe any aspect of the Okanagan; bright, fresh, refreshing, pristine, unspoilt, alive and so on . . .
Our ambition is to make great wines. Great wine can be found all over the world but it’s important for us not to merely copy those wines because by definition, great wine is unique and identifiable to its origin. Of course, great wine also by definition should be delicious. In the Okanagan Valley, we have a rare and precious combination of growing conditions; relatively high altitude, desert climate (hot days, cool nights), low humidity, tolerable winters from our moderating lakes, young soils lain over glacial till and all of this occurs at a very high latitude from the equator. The Okanagan epitomizes all of the great qualities, which the entire global wine industry scrambles to define itself as being.
