PURE ALCHEMY: NORTH VANCOUVER’S COPPERPENNY DISTILLING CO.
TAKES TRIPLE GOLD AT THE SPIRITS BUSINESS GLOBAL GIN MASTERS 2025
North Vancouver Craft Distillery Earns Accolades for its Artisanal Lost Horizon Rare Tea Gin
and Ember BC Pine Smoked Gin at Prestigious Blind Tasting Competition in London, England
North Vancouver craft distillery Copperpenny Distilling Co. struck gold three times at The Spirits Business Global Gin Masters 2025 competition this past week, bringing a pair of medals for its Lost Horizon Rare Tea Gin and another for its Ember BC Pine Smoked Ginback to its home in North Vancouver’s Lower Lonsdale District at 103-288 Esplanade E Avenue.
The awards, viewed as the world’s most highly regarded series of blind-tasting spirits competitions, were handed out by a panel of independent judges during a tasting in London, England, with Copperpenny’s Lost Horizon Rare Tea Gin entry earning gold in the Contemporary Round as well as the Microdistillery Round.
The accolade marks yet another jewel in the Copperpenny crown for its exotic Lost Horizon Gin, which also claimed the gold medal in the Contemporary Gin category at the Artisan Distillers Canada 2025 Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition in April.
At turns elegantly dry, luxurious and exotic, Lost Horizon Rare Tea Gin is a beautifully contemporary dry gin that incorporates a rare loose leaf Ceylon tea as the leading botanical note which imparts orange blossom and vanilla notes, while tannins from the tea leaves deliver a beautiful, rich brown hue and complex body.
Copperpenny’s newest not yet released Ember BC Pine Smoked Gin is born from the wild mountains of BC and is made with select BC wheat and a thoughtful blend of locally foraged and European juniper, with each batch emboldened with gentle smoke from coastal pine wood to capture the terroir of BC and the true soul of a West Coast winter.
On the nose, Ember drifts in like a whisper of campfire on cool mountain air with hints of pine needles, crushed juniper berries and a faint glow of warm citrus. Smoky like a mezcal, structured like a peated scotch, yet unmistakably a gin spirit, Ember’s smoke wraps around the palate in ribbons and features a finish that lingers with seductive warmth.
Earlier this year Copperpenny also won the prestigious Gold-medal spot as Canada’s Best Contemporary Style Gin at the 2025 World Gin Awards for its No. 005 Social Gin, where it was singled out for its ‘clear and quiet nose showcasing herbaceous qualities and distinct lime rind aroma … clean and fruit-forward with a pleasant mouthfeel … and piney and eucalyptus notes, with a strong juniper presence, offering good intensity and a balance of dry and sweet flavours, making it ideal for a chilled martini.”
Lost Horizon Rare Tea Gin is available directly from Copperpenny in 375mL and 750mL formats for $39 and $68 respectively plus applicable taxes as well as at select private liquor store outlets throughout BC, and is available for nationwide delivery through the Copperpenny website. Follow Copperpenny’s social media on Instagram or Facebook for special pre-releases of the Ember Smoked Gin before its official launch in early 2026.
