Popular French-Inspired Boutique The Parisienne Market
French-inspired tea atelier Marais Tea Company is celebrating its first year of offering comfort, steeped daily in the cozy confines of its tea house and café that shares a space with popular boutique The Parisienne Market located in the heart of Downtown Chilliwack near District 1881 at 9375 Mill Street.
Open Mondays to Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Marais Tea Company offers a gathering place where Parisian warmth and beauty meet for meaningful moments and where the everyday slows down just long enough to feel a little more magical — an intimate enclave serving warm drinks, French-inspired pastries and a touch of old-world charm that makes every visit feel like a little escape.
Marais Tea Co. was founded by Ethan Maarhuis, who was inspired by time spent abroad in Europe to open a café that was rooted in a passion for curating delicious moments in a relaxed space that served exceptional tea, espresso and food.
“The quality and flavour of the food and drink I experienced in my travels surpassed anything back home, and I returned with a desire to open a café that was rooted in a passion for cultivating those same sorts of delicious moments,” says Maarhuis. “Marais Tea Co. is built around the belief that tea is more than just a drink — it offers a personal moment that can be shared with friends or enjoyed in quiet solitude. We aim to be a part of whatever moment our guests are in, and to make those moments worth savouring.”
Marais shares a space with TThe Parisienne Market, a boutique that brings the timeless charm and modern style of France to Chilliwack and is owned and operated by Ethan’s mother Julie Maarhuis. Julie and her husband bought an apartment in Paris during the pandemic and quickly fell in love with the French lifestyle while travelling the countryside and hunting down trinkets and treasures at the famed brocantes that abound in the City of Light.
Desiring to bring a little taste of France back to her home in the Fraser Valley, she opened The Parisienne Market in 2025 and quickly established the boutique as a popular destination thanks to her curated and every-changing collection of French antiques, art and timeless collectibles sourced from markets, auctions and estates across France. The market also offers an array of Parisian-inspired fashion, jewelry, French pharmacy favourites, soaps, stationery, La Cuisine kitchenware, spices, vintage cutlery, linens and more.
Beyond the café, Marais Tea Company also offers a curated selection of teas that range from classic breakfast blends and green, white and oolong to chai and matcha and single-estate varietals where each leaf is chosen with care, steeped in story and crafted to bring comfort to wherever it’s served. Marais sources its teas from growers and gardens where craft runs deep, including a Master Origins Series that highlights exotic, single-origin orthodox teas — from high-grown Ceylon to the mountain estates of Kenya, with each tea selected for its character, clarity and quiet pleasure it brings to each cup.
“We believe every cup of tea holds more than flavour. It holds a moment,” says Maarhuis. “A quiet pause in the day, a chance to reconnect, to slow down, to savour something real. Our blends honour the spirit and origin of our teas, and the moments they’re made for, whether our guests visit us in person or steep with us at home.”
Marais Tea Co.’s new Saison de Printemps (Spring Menu) features seasonal beverages hand-crafted in house that include the Parisian Fog (Earl Grey with lavender-infused syrup and velvety steamed milk), La Vie en Rose Tea Latte (Parisien afternoon tea with rose syrup), Cinnamon Heart Tea Latte (bold Saigon chai richly spiced with house-made cinnamon syrup), Lavender Lemonade (freshly squeezed lemon juice shaked with lavender syrup over ice) and Lavender Liquid Chocolate (Rogers’ dark chocolate, steamed milk, vanilla and lavender syrup).
ABOUT MARAIS TEA COMPANY
Marais Tea Co. is a French-inspired tea atelier rooted in the belief that life is made in the small, unhurried moments. From its Tea House & Café on Mill Street to the curation of fine leaves and blends, everything it creates is meant to bring a touch of beauty and comfort to everyday rituals. Marais began with a simple idea: to slow down — and created something bright and inviting: a space where people could pause, breathe and savour. What started as a small tea counter has since grown into a full tea house and café, but the heart remains the same: to offer a place where everyone feels welcome, seen and unhurried.
