’80s Disco Night-Themed Event Brings Together Past Models as VFC Launches
40th Annual Calendar to Benefit VFC Fundraising Programs
Vancouver Firefighters Charities (VFC) will bring the past and present together and officially open the books of its
40th annual Hall of Flame Calendar during an
‘80s-themed Disco Night Launch Party that takes centre stage at the Hollywood Theatre (
3123 West Broadway) on
Saturday, Sept. 19th.
With 40 years and counting as the
longest running firefighters calendar in the world, this year’s launch event offers a showcase for the full suite of community based charitable programs that the VFC oversees, including
Snacks for Kids,
Toys for Kids,
Sports for Kids and
Lifelines for Seniors that benefit at-risk youth and seniors in communities throughout BC. 100% of all ticket and calendar sales and
donations from the event will directly benefit VFC’s local charities as well as the
BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.
The 40th annual calendar is a special one, as a duty roster of former Hall of Flame Calendar models from the past four decades make triumphant returns to the glossy pages of the 2027 edition, including veteran model Bill Lealess, who appeared in the 1993 edition. Previous and current models will also be on hand to sell and sign copies of the new edition.
The Disco Night party will also bring models from past editions of the calendar into the spotlight with an ‘80s-themed cover band of local firefighters that features two former models — drummer/vocalist Michael Hornvedt and guitarist Neil Joss — as well as lead singer Rob Rooke. Another firefighter, DJ Jay Zoney, will be on the turntables spinning tunes throughout the night.
“We’re inviting everyone to dust off their dancing shoes and boogie down with us during an epic throwback to the ’80s and a Disco Night filled with funky beats, flashing lights and non-stop fun as celebrate this major milestone for our Hall of Flame Calendar,” says Michelle Zygmunt, Hall of Flame Calendar Coordinator “It’s a huge occasion to celebrate our hardworking firefighters and provide a spotlight for the charities and causes that the funds raised from the sale of each calendar will benefit.”
For forty years, the Hall of Flame calendar project has seen a bevy of bronzed, bold and beautiful firefighters from around the Lower Mainland doff their gear and donate their time to appear in a calendar that has raised more than a million dollars and counting for BC charities to date.

Vancouver Firefighter Charities
Vancouver Firefighter Charities is how firefighters help people when they’re not at the firehall. Firefighters raise funds, then build programs to help in-need people directly. All programs and fundraisers are managed by off-duty Vancouver Firefighters, who give their personal time, and also donate funds directly to VFC through voluntary payroll donations. In 2018, the Vancouver Firefighters’ Payroll Donation program raised over $140,000 for charitable programs. For example, in 2018, the Snacks for Kids Nutritional Program will ensure that 300,000 food donations will be made to almost 1600 at-risk youth in 40 Vancouver schools. These children come to school hungry, but they don’t stay that way! VFC has other programs as well. The VFC supports a multitude of organizations throughout the Lower Mainland, including CKNW Orphan’s Fund, Burn Fund, BC Children’s Hospital, VGH+UBC Hospital Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Canada, Vancouver Hospice Society, Juvenile Diabetes BC, BC Kidney Foundation, Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC, BC Cancer Research, Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, C.H.I.L.D. Foundation, and many more.
