BC called to rally for hospitality workers

5 Minutes. Five Dollars. 5 Friends.

BC Hospitality Foundation Calls on British Columbians
to Rally Behind Hospitality Workers

With just two weeks remaining, the Spirit of Hospitality Lottery has raised $25,000 toward its $100,000 goal. The BCHF is asking media and communities across BC to help spread the word.

Five minutes. Five dollars, Five Friends. That is all the BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) is asking British Columbians to consider as it makes an urgent appeal for support in the final two weeks of its 8th annual Spirit of Hospitality Lottery.

With ticket sales at $25,000 against a $100,000 fundraising goal, the BCHF is calling on media outlets, businesses, community leaders and individuals across the province to help get the word out and buy before ticket sales close November 4.

The ask is simple:

5 minutes to visit the lottery website and purchase tickets.

$5 to purchase a ticket for a chance to win extraordinary BC experiences.

5 friends to tell about the lottery and encourage them to do the same.

This year marks the BCHF’s 20th anniversary, and the lottery celebrates with 20 prize packages worth more than $35,000, generously donated by hospitality and tourism businesses.

Prizes include a Rocky Mountaineer rail journey, a luxury stay at the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino, Okanagan wine country getaways, Victoria and Vancouver Island escapes, golf retreats, dining experiences and more.

But behind the incredible prizes is a serious purpose.

For 20 years, the BCHF has helped hospitality and tourism workers who experience financial hardship when illness or injury prevents them from working. The Foundation has provided more than $1.28 million in assistance to 340 workers and their families, helping people manage expenses such as rent, groceries and medical costs during difficult times.

“When someone who has spent their career looking after others suddenly faces a health crisis, the financial impact can be devastating,” says Alana Dickson, Executive Director, the BC Hospitality Foundation. “We have two weeks left and a significant fundraising gap to close. We are asking British Columbians to take five minutes, spend five dollars if they can, and tell five friends. Imagine what could happen if people across the province helped spread the word.”

The message is simple: You could win an unforgettable experience, and your ticket purchase could help someone in hospitality keep a roof over their head while they recover.

Those who do not wish to purchase a lottery ticket can also support the BCHF through a direct donation.

Tickets start at $5 and sales close Nov. 4, 2026.

The final draw takes place Nov. 5.
