It’s always a treat as a wine drinker to try something that you’ve never had before and like it. That was the case for me when I dropped into Marquis Wines on Davie Street to try their Wines of the Week. Christine recommended Dominio de Tares Mencia Baltos and I’m a fan. Deep red in colour with a great aroma of red fruit. The first taste surprised me because it seemed quite light but then developed into something much deeper. I think this is another example of how so many red wines improve in flavour with the more air you give them. Wine geeks describe this as “let the wine express itself.” I call it getting all that you paid for when you decant the wine. This is the first time I’ve had a wine made from the Mencia grape but it won’t be the last. A really refreshing red that’s on sale until Sunday closing.
