The perfect way to kick off the Vancouver International Wine Festival with Feature Country – France and the Global Focus – Bubbly.
The evening started at a Parisian inspired 9 pm at Ginger 62. The setting was ideal with subdued lighting and ample space for the sold out crowd of about 250 minglers. Ginger 62 was the perfect venue and their gourmet bites were all absolutely delicious. Pastries from Faubourg rounded out the extensive array.
Wine stations were well spaced allowing easy flow and access. Each pouring station was a modern, backlit bar festooned with clear ice bowls filled with an array of French bubbles, Crémants and Champagnes.
Nine winemakers representing the regions of France poured a selection of eighteen sparkling wines to compliment the tasty bites. What could be more French than baguette with four cheese selections, a charcuterie plate complete with Provence olives. Or go contemporary with the bacon caramel popcorn. The Faubourg French pastries were deliciously displayed and equally delicious to sample. Guests noshed on fresh oysters on the half shell, as bite size hors d’oeuvre passed by on trays for waiting guests.
Sponsored by France Bon Appetit and Sopexa Canada, expertly organized by the team at The Wine Umbrella this was a wonderful evening for lovers of bubbly and all things France.
The first of ten events by the capable team at The Wine Umbrella, Mireille Sauve and business partner Luisa Deziel. The Wine Umbrella works with several other regional organizations including Wines of Germany, Wines from Spain and the BC Wine Institute.
The wines were all wonderful and I recommend you look for these wines at the Acura International Tasting Room on Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights and Saturday afternoon.
