Leave it to the creative minds of Okanagan Crush Pad to come up with a B.C. wine to celebrate an important milestone for many in the lower mainland. Vancouver is home to an ever growing Asian community and 2015 will usher in the Year of the Sheep. The Haywire red and white were specifically crafted to match food that’ll grace the Lunar New Year table. I paired them with a spicy General Tso’s beef dish and both wines were note perfect. The fresh, crisp white held up to the spice yet brought a nice cooling touch which enhanced the flavour for me. The red is full bodied and peppery and complimented the spice and beef. The Lunar New Year wines have just been released so there’s plenty of time to order them from the winery prior to your celebration. However a reminder that last year’s inaugural release sold out so best not to delay.
