Gotham Steakhouse & Bar is honoured to receive a prestigious Platinum 2016 Wine Program Excellence Award at the Vancouver International Wine Festival.
Led by Beverage Director Brett Kawaguchi and Sommelier Sam Jonnery, Gotham’s wine program has proven its exceptional intelligence, variety and depth. The cellar includes over 450 labels, including many rare varietals and exclusive bottles, with special emphasis on California, British Columbia and Italy.
“This award is a testament to the dedication and passion of everyone at Gotham,” said Megan Buckley, Hy’s of Canada Chief Operating Officer. “Our wine program has been a source of great pride since we opened in 1999, and we’re thrilled to receive this kind of recognition.”
Gotham Steakhouse has strived to be at the leading edge of wine program innovation. A “real time” cellar list is available online for pre-dinner browsing. The Coravin system has added a whole new dimension to the reserve program, making any rare, valuable or unique bottle available for a minimum two-glass order. And, a proprietary wine training program has been a great resource for a professional service staff keen to share their knowledge with our guests.
Sam Jonnery, the most recent addition to Gotham’s management team, is a familiar face to many of our guests, coming most recently from Il Divino and Le Crocodile. With multiple sommelier certifications, formal restaurant training and a genuine passion for wine and hospitality, Sam brings to Gotham even more strength and depth across all phases of operation.
Since opening in 1999 in one of Vancouver’s few remaining original art deco buildings, Gotham Steakhouse has been the city’s first choice for fine cocktails, great steaks and professional service in elegant and luxurious surroundings.
