BC Culture Days announces the call for the 2016 Ambassador and Awards Program.BC Culture Days invites all B.C. artists to apply for the 2016 Ambassador and Awards Program. Winners will receive $1,000 towards community activation and presentation of a Culture Days activity!
The Culture Days weekend, taking place this year on September 30, October 1 and 2, is a national celebration of arts, culture, and heritage inviting the public “behind-the scenes” to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, and designers at work. The public is invited to engage with their local arts and cultural community and discover their own creativity through a variety of hands-on activities. Last year, 614 free activities were registered across BC including: artist studio and museum tours, dance and music workshops, open theatre rehearsals, collaborative art projects, and roundtable discussions.
The Culture Days Ambassador acts as a spokesperson for BC Culture Days and as a community mobilizer throughout the summer leading up to the Culture Days weekend. Responsibilities include: reaching out to local artists, organizations and community groups to encourage registering activities for the Culture Days weekend; promoting Culture Days to the public through social media; presenting a Culture Days activity; and acting as a community contact for local media.
“I am pleased to say, my role has made many people happy and hopeful for cultural belonging and bridging. People felt excited to see a national project that cares about them, cares about their cultural participation and encourages mainstream participation, thus raising Canadian pride with cultural pride.” Nina Buddhdev, 2015 Tri-Cities Culture Days Ambassador.
Eligible applicants must be individual artists (amateur or professional) residing in B.C; active in their arts, culture or heritage community; and registered to present an activity during the Culture Days weekend.
Artists are invited to apply to the program by completing the online application form at bc.culturedays.ca. Applications will be juried by members of the BC Culture Days Task Force. Deadline: June 15, 2016.
