It was a warm summer evening this past Thursday the 18th of August, and I was one of the lucky ones invited to observe the fifth annual Diner en Blanc at “the secret location”. Dressed all in white, I made my way towards Concord Pacific Place suddenly becoming aware of all the other guests merging together forming area of white. I didn’t know these people but we acknowledged each other with a smile and a nod, as one does to another member of special club. In a city renowned for its casual nature, an event such as this is unique.
This annual event is the brainchild of “The Social Concierge,” adopted from the Parisians who have been celebrating in this fashion for 28 years. With 6000 guests invited to this years event it was indeed a spectacle of white, complete with live entertainment, theatrical models who float through the crowds displaying their costumes and entertaining the guests.
With the head table’s delicious meals being prepared by Hawksworth Restaurant and Champagne from Moet & Chandon what more could one ask for? This is an event that one should try to experience at least once, the conviviality of the night is unique not only for the array of costu
mes, entertainers and decor in every shade of white but also and perhaps more importantly, the sense that despite being in an ever growing and busy city, there was a certain “Je ne se quoi” in the air.
