Three BC teams place first in individual BBQ categories
Eleven years of smoking hot BBQ and community fun were celebrated in Langley on Sunday, September 11 at the 2016 BBQ Off the Bypass (BOTB), presented by Well Seasoned Gourmet Food Store and C&D Logistics, in partnership with Johnston’s. This year’s BBQ also welcomed the 7th annual Great BC Bake-Off.
More than 5,000 meat lovers of all ages attended this free public event and tasted free samples of delicious slow-cooked meat, purchased take home treats from vendors, and enjoyed festive activities and live performance by local band, The New Shackeltons. Admission was by donation with more than $6,000 raised to support Langley’s TinyKittens Society.
The energy at this year’s competition brought even more heat as 19 teams from Washington and BC traveled to compete for a prize pool of $5,000 and the grand championship title (highest total accumulated points across all BBQ categories) that was taken home by Dances with Smoke from Renton, Washington.

“We celebrated Southern style BBQ in the best way possible. Passionate BBQ teams showcased their talents while families and friends gathered over delicious food and gave back to the community by supporting local charitable partner, TinyKittens. Also, special thanks to our pie and BBQ judges for evaluating another intense competition this year.” – Angie Quaale, BBQ champion and founder of BOTB.
