Best Sommelier of BC

 

Public are invited to watch sommeliers compete 

 

When: Monday, January 9, 2017 (1:00pm-5:00pm; doors open at 12:30pm)

Where:

• Competition Arena: Rogers Arena- 200 Level, Captain’s Lounge, enter via Gate 10, 800 Griffiths Way, Vancouver.
• After-party: CIBO Trattoria, 900 Seymour Street, Vancouver.

Timeline: 

• 9:00am to 11:30am- Not open to public. Written exams for 16 competing sommeliers.
• 12:30pm- Doors open to public (free). Seating is general. Donations encouraged to support CAPS BC.
• 1:00pm-  Competition begins. 16 competing sommeliers return to stage and judges announce top three finalist from highest scorers of written exam.

• 1:30pm- Top three finalists take turns (45 minutes each) to compete in practical exam that includes:

◦Sparkling wine service

◦Red wine decanting

◦Food and wine pairing exercise

◦Menu correction exercise

◦Blind tasting of cocktails, red and white wines

• 5:00pm- Competition ends. 

• (VENUE CHANGE)

• 5:30pm- After-party at CIBO Trattoria where the winner will be announced (900 Seymour Street, Vancouver). Judges to tally practical exam scores during this time.

• 6:30pm- Winning announcement for BC’s Best Sommelier in 2017.
• 8:30pm- After-party ends.

What: 

•Third annual Best Sommelier of BC Competition, hosted by Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers British Columbia Chapter (CAPS BC).

•16 local sommeliers compete to be BC’s Best Sommelier of 2017. The practical exam at Rogers Arena is open for the public to spectate.
